Cynthia Nixon: The panicked Democratic establishment wants a 'unity' pick. That's Bernie.

The panicked Democratic establishment wants a 'unity' candidate. That's Bernie.

Unity shouldn’t mean that people who are suffering are told to just shut up and vote Democratic and we’ll get to your problems later.

snip

Trump got elected because he called out the hidden-in-plain-sight truth that things aren’t working in this country for far too many people.

Trump spoke directly to primarily white working-class voters, and he lied to them. He told them that he felt their pain and was going to fix it. And then he wrapped it all up in a big ugly bow of white supremacy that placed the blame on the “other.” He distracted us from the real problem — which is that billionaires like him have rigged the system to such an obscene degree that the three wealthiest families in America now own more wealth than the entire bottom half of the country combined.

That unity candidate is Bernie Sanders. Bernie has assembled a wildly diverse, beautiful mosaic of supporters — from young women in headscarves to old men in overalls and everyone in between. Bernie is speaking to the core issues that matter to the vast majority of Americans on the left, on the right and to people who have no use for politics. He’s the only candidate who has built an army of small donors capable of competing with Trump’s fundraising machine. And even better news, poll after poll shows that Bernie beats Trump in the general election.

We need to stop worrying about finding a centrist candidate who “checks all the boxes” or seems the most traditionally “electable.” Instead of voting based on what we think other Americans will like — something that Democrats are not very good at, given our history with “electable” nominees such as John Kerry and Clinton — we should vote for who we believe in.

Of the major candidates, he's the least unifying. Burning bridges and attacking Democrats and the Democratic party on innumerable occasions over a period of decades is a weird way of trying to unify the party.

"Unity shouldn’t mean that people who are suffering are told to just shut up and vote Democratic and we’ll get to your problems later. "

Nor should it mean telling people who don't support Sanders to shut up and unify already.

the last time she used it when she primaried the Democratic governor who brought NYS

- the $15 an hour minimum wage,
- tuition free community college and state university,
- gender pay equity legislation,
- the codification of Roe v Wade into NYS law,
- and a gold standard paid family leave act.

Damn that Democratic Establishment!

The minimum wage legislation was implemented in the spring 2016 and the tuition free state university program in January 2017.

BS supporters do not get to co-opt credit for the programs that were planned, passed, and instituted by a Democratic governor beginning in 2014-2015.

BS might want to recommend that his home state Vermont follow Andrew Cuomo's model if they'd like to accomplish the same goals. Step one is to elect a hard-working Democrat who knows how to get things done.

especially when used by or on behalf of somebody who's been a professional politician for the last 40 years. Bernie is just as much a part of the political establishment as any other candidate, but he gets up on his high horse and pretends he's too pure and woke to be merely "electable," because he's going to assemble his army of entitled white kids and bring about the Revolution.

1. There is more than the one subway that Cynthia Nixon occasionally rides.

Cuomo vs. Nixon Debate? It’s Already Heated (Literally)

The first and only debate between Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and his Democratic rival, Cynthia Nixon, is set for Wednesday, and the candidates have been bunkered in prep sessions with their advisers.

But even before the high-stakes clash begins, a pre-debate battle is being waged — over the temperature dial.

Ms. Nixon’s team has publicly accused the debate host, WCBS-TV, of catering to all of the governor’s demands to land the debate, and they are concerned that the debate hall at Hofstra University on Long Island might feel like an ice rink when they arrive.

snip==================================================================

In a pre-emptive strike, Rebecca Katz, a top strategist for Ms. Nixon, asked WCBS-TV in an email last week that the debate hall be warmed to 76 degrees.

Ms. Katz wrote that working conditions are “notoriously sexist when it comes to room temperature, so we just want to make sure we’re all on the same page here,” according to a copy of her email obtained by The New York Times.

Ms. Katz said on Tuesday she had yet to hear back from WCBS-TV, and that 76 degrees was just an opening offer to ensure the temperatures were not uncomfortably cold. The Cuomo campaign said it was unaware of what temperature the room would be. The station declined to comment.

Even before they've "won".

Of course Obama is "blue no matter who". So am I. The problem for Democrats is that non-Democrats generally don't like Sanders for President. And will like him a lot less when his considerable vulnerabilities go on 24/7 TV ad cycle.
