I will support Bernie if he is the nominee, but if what I expect happens, I want be contributing anything to "resistance" causes, that would be making the same people who would not listen to people have been there before and went ahead and drove Bernie to the nomination. I think they need to realize what losing rights or their personal sense of safety with no recourse feels like, maybe they will smarten up.

(28,082 posts)that when November comes our choices might be "Trump" or "Not Trump" and she did agree she'd pick the "Not Trump" no matter what.
Though, what surprised me about this person, especially given her current financial state, is that she's turned off by Bernie's (and to a lesser extent Warren's) attacks on the wealthy and the way he (and her) are pushing "socialism". According to her, the American Dream is becoming wealthy and they are attacking that. Not sure where she's getting that idea; she's not a stupid person but it makes me wonder how many other people are thinking like that.
Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires. - John Steinbeck (maybe, there is some dispute about who said it.)

...many in this country, through no fault of their own, are not as fortunate...many were given a bad hand to play from birth and have been struggling and suffering ever since...
...by supporting Bernie you're putting back into the kitty of our country, the country which helped make you fortunate...you would be helping to raise all boats which can only make for a better America, for yourself and your loved ones...

(22,913 posts)I used that tact during the 2016 campaign. I pressed the point of how bad Trump would be for America in debates with Bernie or Busters. I wasn't going to convince hardly any of them to be "Pro-Clinton", but I got some of them to become "Anti-Trump" enough to vote for Clinton anyway. This time it should be easier, the evidence of the damage Trump has done is all around us and getting worse. If Never Trumper Conservatives can make the "Vote Blue No Matter Who" case, anyone can if they try, and it can swing votes.
Or then again try another issue to argue on, may I suggest Climate Change? It is clearly dire with the world at a tipping point and Trump plans to make the crisis graver.

Don't go for one of those shelters with five years of canned tuna, a sofa and nothing to do inside. At least get one with a gym and a window with a fake "vista" you can change from time to time.

(31,261 posts)gun in their mouth, turn off the safety and pull the trigger. If they need those bunkers, life is over for them.
The owner makes big promises. Like he will send a military team riding in a terrain vehicle out 400 miles to pick them up. To top it off, the place is actually powered by windmills that sit on the plain near it, no shit . The military team is about 10 people as of now and the facility holds something like 300-400 families. It all is just fucking illogical. Those people are better off spending the millions that they spend on that trash on getting good schools and on social services for the poor - that will go much farther toward making them safe.

(3,879 posts)Too many people are tired of Trump. All of that crap adds up. He's lost too much support to carry enough states, especially Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida and Wisconsin, which he can't win if he doesn't have.
He's toast.

(4,026 posts)Even on CNN yesterday morning, the male anchor was interviewing 2 women about Bernie and kept referring to him as a Socialist, when in fact Bernie self refers as a Democratic Socialist. Defusing the language as weapon used against Dems in general is a focus. Also, Trump is the one who embraces Russia, and after all, the red scare was all about Russia wasnt it?

(16,125 posts)voting against Trump? Or are you OK with him still being there if you want to "make a point" by working against our party's nominee?
Seriously, it isn't all that complicated.
I really dislike Bloomberg, but if he is our nominee, I'll work to get him elected because he isn't Trump.
So, suck it up Buttercup. The general election is about our overall party, not any of our personal feelings about any candidate.

Bernie is my last choice and I don't promise to canvass for him, but if he wins, I expect him to at least veto shit bills that Congress passes, and possibly to reverse some of the worst of Trump's executive orders. And put an actual environmentalist in charge of the EPA. Oh and at least try to appoint judges that are decent, not the scum of the earth that Trump tries to appoint whenever he can.*
I could keep going but you get the point. If nothing else, the worst of Trump's damage train is halted with Bernie, or any of our candidates. Reversing the damage is a different question but just stopping the disaster from continuing to spread, is worth your effort to convince others.
* in fairness, I don't think "scum of the earth" necessarily applies to every single judge Trump has appointed. I think he is making the effort to make that true, however.

(18,319 posts)in primary races big and small all across the country and then to help elect down ticket Democrats, locally and nationally, during the GE. Democrats are going to need all the help we can get to hold the House.
I'll be working hard to keep and flip LI offices and seats blue (like I always do), but if the nominee is BS, I will not spend my weekends traveling to and from PA to work a swing state ground game (like I have for the last three cycles) for the presidential ticket.

(537 posts)Vote Democrat. If you can't argue for student loan forgiveness maybe you should do some reading as to how the student loan crisis happened. For profit colleges receiving public monies for worthless diplomas, the private lenders making student loans and the reworking of bankruptcy laws with no escape from said student loans. No I don't have any, don't have any skin in that game but I do realize how it was rigged to make some people alot of money at the expense of working class.

(37,748 posts)Regardless of any implicit allegations we make in regards to our income or a self-validating fondness for name-dropping, I'd simply vote for the Democratic nominee.
Because sometimes we have to realize that "It's all about ME!" is a child's game... and it may finally be time to put that self-absorbed self-advertising away in favor of something a wee bit more substantial-- like Chute & Ladders.

(3,855 posts)Sanders has plenty of money from low dollar donations so I think he will understand if you don't.
Nor do you have to make a compelling argument for MFA or student loan forgiveness. Other much smarter people have already done so.
Personally I think people not having to ration insulin and the trillion dollars that will come pouring back into the economy are pretty compelling arguments. But I am just a peon who lives paycheck to paycheck so what do I know?

Good on you if you make that donation on behalf of someone who can't, because it's done in the spirit of resisting class war on the 99%.
A lot of us couldn't make compelling arguments in support of two of Hillary's or Obama's campaign issues, either.
So, if you have to ask ... I'm shocked, frankly.

(16,245 posts)Or like we are always urged to do. I mean I cant believe you actually want Trump to win again. There are no good arguments against Medicare for All (or another form of single payer health care). None whatsoever. The only arguments against it come from a place of selfishness, as in why should I pay for someone elses health care (which is not actually how it works). Same with college loan forgiveness. Utter selfishness not to want young people to be unburdened by debt as they are starting out.
So, we all suck it up. Ive had to before. There has never been candidate I could fully get behind, other than Obama. Not Clinton (either of them), not Gore or Kerry (yawn).
While I despise Buttigieg and Bloomberg, I can manage to hold my nose long enough to vote without enthusiasm.
