WaPo: Elizabeth Warren bets that slew of policy ideas will win over Trump-weary voters

Elizabeth Warren bets that slew of policy ideas will win over Trump-weary voters

"The government would pay to build more than 3 million homes and apartments, nearly eliminating a housing shortage for the poor. Uncle Sam would manufacture insulin if the critical medicine’s price spikes. The federal government would foot the bill for child care for many. And big companies, from technology to agriculture, would be broken up.

That’s the world as envisioned by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who has churned out a slew of policy ideas in the opening months of her presidential campaign, promoting government intervention into markets she says are no longer working for the middle class.

Warren, alone among the Democratic candidates, is betting voters, exhausted by an emotional, blustery president often seemingly uninterested in specifics, want someone whose strength is a mastery of detail and a meticulous road map for pitchfork-style change. While other Democratic hopefuls have offered isolated plans, Warren’s stand out for their number — and their sweeping aim of overhauling basic aspects of American life."

There's an interplay: I feel pretty emotional about Warren's intelligence and policies, and about the possibility of having a smart president again! Inslee is another candidate whose primary appeal, at least to me, is his policy ideas--but emotionally, it would be reassuring to have someone with his intelligence and focus on climate change leading the country.

That said, it's smart of Elizabeth Warren to connect her ideas to her personal history. It will help people connect to her emotionally.

Magats aren't going to vote for ANYONE with a D behind their name. Our candidate shouldn't be attempting to win THEIR vote. We WILL win without it if there is no cheating this time. Same as last time.

At the end of the day, voters who are struggling (ie most Americans) want to believe that you really give a shit and will make them a priority if you win. She really does, and anyone who actually watched the Jackson town hall or the NAN speech knows that it comes through loud and clear.

primary today, I would vote for:
