Some thoughts on why Stacey Abrams should NOT run for President

She stood out in 2018 not when she was in a Primary, but when was in a one-on-one race with Brian Kemp. In the 2020 Presidential field, she would be one of six women, one of four African Americans, one of six (or seven depending on how you count) progressives, and one of potentially TWENTY Democrats running. Add to which, a late start puts her at risk of not qualifying for the early debates.

She is far better off staying in Georgia and running for Governor.

(nb - someone will no doubt point out that this description could apply to many other candidates in the field. That's true, but those candidates don't have the same level of anticipation here that Abrams does.)

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

ms abrams is very impressive, but she needs more experience and georgia needs her.

another possibility - with any luck we will have a lot of cabinet posts to fill in 2021.

I first saw the thread title and thought "I can't think of a reason why she should run"

I simply can't figure out why we so often in recent years see an identified "rising star" within the party and suddenly try to fit them into much higher office based upon political positions and appealing demographic combinations.

She's only 45 and could easily have an accelerated political career that gets her into the House and then Senate (or gubernatorial seat) and then run for Pres/VP in her mid 50s. Thrust her into the primaries now and she's likely to fall out unnoticed somewhere in the teens and possibly end up out of politics. Who wants to run for the House after running for statewide and then national office and failing?

Why ruin what would otherwise be a 30-year career?

2. I think she decided not to run unless there is no clear front runner by fall

If everybody is bunched up and there are many undecideds she would have an opening, but if one or two are way ahead of the others, she won't be able to catch up.

calendar for Rep or Senate? Could she bow out of either of those races and not do damage to the party if she is selected for VP?

She would an attractive VP selection for many of the candidates.

If you’re a minority or a woman, you have to justify your candidacy. If you’re a white male, it’s your natural, God-given right to run for president!

The sexism on this forum really is making it an unpleasant place for non-sexists.
