The One Percent Is So Happy To See Elizabeth And Bernie Lose Ground

They don't want no stinkin' revolution.

A next to nothing tax status is what really makes them happy.

Paying taxes is for the little people.

"Leona Helmsely died in 2007 at age 87, and some people may not know of her past prominence. In her heyday, she was as big as Donald Trump or Kim Kardashian. And she was colorful too. A billionaire, she was convicted of tax fraud that started with small and obvious acts of evasion. She had a harsh persona too, earning her the nickname the “Queen of Mean.”

During her tax evasion trial, a former employee testified that Helmsley said: “We don’t pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes.” By “we”, she meant not only herself but her husband, New York tycoon Harry Helmsley."

Hey little friends, how do you like your place? Work your ass off, and give half your money to monopolies, or the guvvmint'. And if you get sick, you go bankrupt, and with our without insurance you die when THEY decide to not cover what you need if your treatment may cost them too much.

Amerikkkkkka!

I like Joe, Pete, Amy, and even Tom, and Mike too. Compared to Trump they are like Jesus and Ghandi combined. I am tired of being played like a fool, supposed to pay my taxes, and "come together" while my family is being robbed, and my planet is being destroyed in the name of profit.

primary today, I would vote for:

Don't think they ever made more than maybe $125K/year between them and even that was late in their careers.

They're millionaires if you count the properties, which they bought long ago when property was reasonably priced. So happens ... they chose very wisely in that regard.

My mom still cuts coupons and won't pay full price for anything. I remember them buying maybe 4 brand new cars in my entire life and one of those was a Capri in like 1975. All the rest were used. I bet my mom doesn't own a piece of jewelry worth >$500. Doubt she's ever had a purse or shoes that cost over $120.

Point being ... being a millionaire doesn't mean you live high on the hog or that you should be faulted for it. My folks worked their freaking asses off for 40+ years and went without on the regular and saved their pennies instead.

I read on DU in 1985 a father would have to work 30 weeks to make enough to pay for a families expenses for the year. Now he would have to work 53 weeks. What is different? The 1% is grinding us down harder.

I wold hope if my wife and I worked our asses off till our 70's we could afford a couple houses.

The problem is how few Americans can get ahead when they are being crushed by the 1%.

Housing is always a bad example because there's a fixed supply. Increasing everybody's income doesn't change the fact that we just haven't built enough houses over the past 50 years because homeowners lobby their cities and counties to keep their own house prices high.

An unremarkable family home in Vermont, a VERY modest D.C. residence which he is required to have as a Senator, and a humble lakeside cottage that was inherited.

He's also done well with real estate (especially the property purchased after his book deal), but no one can claim a Senator is "required" to have a DC residence, much less one that is owned rather than rented.

I'm very fond of Ms. Warren though. She has the ability to reflect on things and change her mind based on data.

I'd be fine with seeing her gain ground.

This is very unlike the other guy who is actually proud of never having changed his mind on anything since the 1960's. Trump left is better, but not all that much better, than Trump right. Both are inflexible and dogmatic.

Fri Feb 28, 2020, 09:18 AM
Feb 2020

She has a compelling personal middle America history, is a little less polarizing, and would have moderated in the general. Taking it away from a frontrunning woman at that stage would have been such bad PR.

Elizabeth was ignored at critical times by the media, and downplayed. If Bernie gets less than 50%, the superdelegates will give it to a moderate.

Bloomberg hates her so much, I wonder if just dividing the vote enough into little pieces to throw it to the superdelegates is part of the role.

If Bernie gets nomination, I will fight for him, but I’m afraid the end game here is going to be a big mess.

If the nomination gets taken from a front-running Bernie at the convention, the Democratic Party will be in an uproar, and our nominee will be weakened by the injustice of it.

Laws need to be passed. Good luck with that without either one of the Senate or House. Depending on where the economy is headed some would never pass. There is this thing called a budget. Free M4A, student loans wiped out, free college = tens of trillions of dollars.
