How about a Sanders/Turner Ticket?

I mean, why not. Nina Turner is young, a woman, and a person of color, right? Senator Sanders trusts her, too, and they agree on policy issues, I believe.

We've not heard much about a potential VP pick by Sanders, but maybe we should discuss who he might select. Nina Turner has all of the desirable characteristics for a 2020 VP nominee, right?

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Democrats don't sulk. That is our current president's schtick.

Democrats want to beat the unindicted co-conspirator in office right now. We want to perfect our union. No democrat is going to sit on the sidelines sulking should Senator Sanders earn our nomination.

Senator Sanders is not my first, second or third choice. He can be bombastic and insulting. Simultaneously, he is always Bernie and you can trust his heart is in the right place (on our side). He has spent decades in consistency.

It will be difficult for him to form alliances to get things done. Yet, if we retake the Senate (which there is a good chance we will), a democratic majority will immediately start working on issues of importance to all of us. So far as I can tell, there is nothing wrong with Bernie's signing hand.

Keep your eyes on the prize.

We cannot afford four more years of his incompetence-in-chief and all of his incompetent minions. The damage already done is pervasive.

Support your preferred candidate. No matter what the pundits say, this thing is not even close to finished. Use your wisdom and common sense (not polls, or pocketbooks) to choose whom you believe is the best candidate.

But please don't do the GOP's job for them. The only hope that bankrupt Party has now is that we sulk, splinter and leave them in power by default. That path will destroy America as we now know her for years to come.

We hang together and we can fix this mess. Not only that, we can build a foundation that will hold for decades, as FDR did. The GOP's enabling of criminality has given us this chance. Let us not blow it. Lives and futures are at stake.

by Repubs-Russia to defeat Democrats as a plus to his career.

And Sanders never has accepted strong people who would challenge or compete with him. Heck, he even strikingly refused to help elect candidates who promised to carry his ideological banner forward in city and state government after he went to DC. (!) Those who would possibly seem smarter or more experienced/competent have to suspect they'd end up exiled (possibly "early up" ).

Some senators might refuse because they believe in the Senate they can do more good. Otherwise, democrats don't take their toys and go home. Senator Sanders will have no problem securing a quality VP pick.

I do agree the Senator from Vermont can be a curmudgeon, so focused on what he sees as right, that he ignores what is happening around him. He needs to remove insults to the "democratic establishment" from his repertoire.

I know he has refused to back candidates. Breakfast with Bernie was long a welcome show in my home. It is hard to miss that impractical streak. Yet, it is also clear Bernie cares about helping us, not those who want to turn the clock back to the days of indentured servitude.

The Senator did not demagogue Dodd Frank when the country needed reassurance and that is far superior to the attitude taken (ignorantly?) by many out of power political types.

As for Putin-- because it is Putin acting here, not the Russian people-- he wants the unindicted co-conspirator we already have in office.

Most of all, Putin wants American chaos. Why? Because only with American chaos can Putin and his band of cut throat emotionally stunted thieves, substantially rob the biggest prize of all, the United States of America.

Putin is pushing Bernie now. If it starts to look like Senator Sanders is uniting the party, Putin and his new mouthpiece Fox News, will begin pushing someone else.

Putin was once East German KGB. The Soviets believed the right pressure on the right places and they could turn our country into a failed state, complete with us out on the streets shooting at one another. When the fighting was finished, the Soviet "political scientists" predicted several states would emerge, easy pickings for them. I wish I kept copies of that Soviet gibberish from school. When the wall fell, I jubilantly threw it all away, laughing at how silly I was to seriously study a regime that died before I was thirty.

Have no doubt about it: The Soviet Union and Putin's Russia are the same entity. Putin simply dropped the ideology clothing and the corruption goes naked these days.

None of the candidates who took the stage in South Carolina support Putin's chaos.

There is only one candidate who clearly does support Putin's scheme to destabilize U.S. and he is already in the White House.

Support your preferred candidate with all your heart. Don't fall prey to Putin's sway. Keep your anger in check and your common sense flowing.

The wisdom of the American people will save us; so long as we keep our eyes on that prize-- removing from office the most corrupt president in our nation's history.

Sanders has never accomplished anything of significance as a senator? Self-exile to the outside corner of a group that contains many capable leaders and doers is good for those who really don't want to work, but fatal for any chance at accomplishment.

And that's how it happened.

You know, seriously. If you were to inherit several mil in 8 years but had to put it all under control of someone you had no say over until then, would Sanders be the one? Wouldn't you require proven records of both competence and integrity before you handed it all over and hoped to at worst get just as much, or at least most of it, back someday?

Surely you'd require more than a sales pitch that promised you the world and insisted every other money manager but him was no better than the "Republicans."

I have seen nothing so far from Senator Sanders to challenge either his integrity or competence. What have you seen?

Yes, the Senator from Vermont is likely not the best coalition builder we have. That flaw has nothing to do with his integrity.

Bernie Sanders has, without a doubt, more credibility than his incompetence-in-chief.

Senator Sanders amendment strategy is not the boldest senatorial move. On this metric, our strongest candidate is, without a doubt, Elizabeth Warren.

Nevertheless, Senator Sanders amendment strategy worked to make bad bills a little better in many instances. That surely demonstrates competence. Despite some of his surrogates and his own attacks on democrats, he has competently run his campaign.

Integrity and competence are not problems for Senator Sanders. As for how he would handle investments, right now the system is gamed against most of us. Surely fixing that corruption comes first.

All of that said, Joe Biden is a man of integrity and has demonstrated competence as a senator and Vice President. His campaigning skills, although infinitely superior to the current president, have not impressed so far this cycle.

Campaigning in rural black churches, the more rural the more likely is a guess.

At any rate, in Bernie, Biden and Warren's case the VP selection will be of utmost importance because of the age factor I think - especially with Joe who has definitely lost a step and Bernie with his heart situation.

117. A hate thread?
Fri Feb 28, 2020, 03:10 PM
Feb 2020

I asked what people thought about a Sanders/Turner ticket. People replied. Some even think it's a good idea. Others find fault with the idea. Some laughed. Some got angry. Please reread the original post that started the thread.

Yes, it was intended as sarcastic satire, but not everyone recognized that. Many posted their real opinions of such a ticket. Those ranged from people who thought it would be great to people who found it to be a terrible idea.

Personally, I reject the idea of someone who voted for Jill Stein rather than Hillary Clinton as a VP nominee, but I did not say that in my OP. In fact, I provided reasons that Senator Sanders might pick her. No hate was in my OP. I don't do hate here.

I just posed a question. Oddsmakers are giving Nina Turner the very best odds of being Sanders' running mate. Some people take that proposal seriously. Do you?

Fri Feb 28, 2020, 03:41 PM
Feb 2020

Ask yourself why Nina Turner is disliked here. I'm sure you know the answer to that question. We have all sorts of people in this forum. Some are fans of Bernie Sanders. Others are fans of other candidates. All can post as they choose, just as I can.

What you do not, and cannot know is my intent. Read my post. Don't attempt to guess why I wrote it.

Many people have suggested that Nina Turner might be Bernie's pick. He picked her to be a major figure in his campaign. I am not a fan of Nina Turner, because she voted for Jill Stein in 2016, and is very proud of that. I would not support her selection as the VP nominee. But, I did not say that in my OP. I simply asked what people thought of that idea. Why did I do that? Because I want people to think about that idea as part of their thinking about the primary race in general.

That's what we do in this forum. Yes, my post was satirical, because I can frankly not imagine that anyone would take the idea of Nina Turner being the VP nominee seriously. And yet, people do take it seriously, so I raised the question in hopes they would think about that idea a little more.

I know where I'm posting very well. My posts here are germane to the topic of this forum. They are designed to stimulate conversation and discussion. That is the function of this forum.

That you do not care for my posts is irrelevant. Completely irrelevant. I post what I mean to say. You do not know me. You do not know my intent. You do not get to suggest that I posted to inspire hatred. Why do you not get to do that? Because you are incorrect. You have imputed an intent that is not present. Read my OP again, please.

It's funny how the OP's thread assumes everyone hates Nina Turner.

It speculates on Bernie's choice. It asks for input from others about such a ticket. You like her, I guess, and would welcome her as the VP nominee. Thanks for letting us know.

The assumption that the reader already has a negative opinion of Turner.

To do so would destroy the intent of the satire.

As usual, some did not recognize that the post was satirical. I answered those people in a way that explained that.

I do not intend to amuse everyone. I do not intend to please everyone. I post my opinions on this forum. People respond to them as they please.

I do not write "hate" posts.

Good day to you!

That would be a 100% guarantee for lots of people to stay home. The ticket would need to show unity in the party if Bernie is truly serious about winning this.

I'm not necessarily saying he needs to pick a moderate, but it does have to be someone that the central vein of the party would be comfortable with. And someone capable and experienced enough to take the reins should something happen. Nina Turner is neither of those.

the odds-on favorite for the VP nod. I don't follow election odds, but that's the case.

she's the campaign chair, much lower profile than a normal VP pick, so I don't think it's likely.

But what is so obviously ridiculous about the idea of picking her that you would single her out?

120. Well, at least one oddsmaker thinks she's the most likely choice:

So, I raised the question about the possibility. I said nothing about it being "obviously ridiculous." Please reread my original post.
