The religious right is claiming Pete Buttigieg isn’t a ‘real’ Christian because he’s gay
By Bil Browning ·
Tuesday, April 9, 2019

The religious right is upset that out presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg has taken the nation by storm. Evangelical leaders are claiming the small town Indiana mayor isn’t actually a Christian because he is gay.

They’re particularly perturbed he’s had the temerity to challenge holier-than-thou Vice President Pence’s conservative brand of evangelical Christianity and President Donald Trump’s lack of “Christian values” despite being embraced by the religious right.

snip//

Pence, like others who oppose equal rights for LGBTQ people, often frames his political opinions as religious ones. Buttigieg is Christian and said that his marriage is good on those terms.

“It has made me more compassionate, more understanding, more self-aware, more decent,” Buttigieg said. “My marriage to Chasten has made me a better man. And yes, Mr. Vice President, it has moved me closer to God.”

“The idea that the only way a religious person could enter politics is through the religious right — I just don’t think that makes sense. What could be more different than the message I take from my faith and what we’re being shown in Washington right now?” Buttigieg said last month on Morning Joe.

wherein he says A WORD about homosexuality, good, bad, or otherwise.

Therefore, it's impossible to show that He felt in any way as though homosexuals could not legitimately be his followers.

He also (assuming he existed and the Biblical account of his life is remotely accurate) spent a large majority of His time hanging out with a gaggle of other dudes ... and despite living into his 30's (a ripe age in that era), never married, and never had any children.

So while many of the primarily sausage-fest meetings with El Hombre may have been homosexual congresses for all we know, there is at least some information in the stories and fables to suggest a more broad form of sexuality being expressed amongst the early church followers.

I kid...but if you, constant reader (to borrow from Stephen King's prose), don't realize that by reading the above over-the-top statements, I don't know what to tell you...

Bottom line is this...the political zealots on the right who steal religious imagery and tropes to hide their blackened and hateful souls don't really like anything about the Jesus that is present in the texts of the bible stories...they much prefer their own reflection and hateful / spiteful version of the Prince of Peace...

not being pushy for converts, tend not to be pushy, period. But it's time for us to get pushy on this.

Mayor Pete: "Your problem is with my Creator."

That's absolutely correct. Now let's take it to the next level.

If you have a problem with the work of the Creator, if you have decided the Creator's creation is "evil" "sinful" and/or "wrong," you need to realize that is blasphemy.

Blasphemy is a pretty serious sin - and, unlike sexual orientation, it IS a choice.

The religious right has just as much a claim of legitimacy for their version of Christianity as does Buttigieg and the religious left. Debating who's the real Christian is like debating how many angels fit on the head of a pin. It's pointless with no correct answer.

Frankly, politics should be secular. Piosity has no place in the Primary.

Wasn't there something written once about the separation of church and state?

And unlike angels on pins, the answer has changed the course of history many times.

Separation of church and state means the government doesn't get involved in religious matters or privilege any one religion. It doesn't mean politicians can't talk about religion or that religious people can't participate in politics.

Writing about her alleged tryst with the future president, Daniels says it “may have been the least impressive sex” she’d ever had.

In a blow to his manhood, she describes his genitals in lurid detail, saying his penis is “smaller than average,” but “not freakishly small.”

“He knows he has an unusual penis,” Daniels claims. “It has a huge mushroom head. Like a toadstool…

I lay there, annoyed that I was getting f–ked by a guy with Yeti pubes and a d–k like the mushroom character in Mario Kart,” she adds in a description of his junk that lit up social media, where users assumed she was referring to Princess Toadstool’s trusty servant Toad.

I could care less what any so called Christians think about who is a real Christian, because many of them are real assholes.

I have no problem with him or anyone else stating what system makes them tick. The religious right is another thing. They will bait and manipulate in the name of their perceived perfect ideology. It's not a discussion, it's not a debate, with them it's and edict directed toward all who disagree.

Mayor Pete should be careful not to take the bait. By answering their statements, their dog whistles, he will just give them the ammunition they crave.

Ignore their statements with challenges to their political positions instead.

Conversely there is no such thing as a "fake" xtian.

There are thousands, if not tens of thousands, of flavors of xtianity. Many of those thousands think all the others flavors are fake xtians and will burn in hell. They can't all be right, but they all can be wrong.

The thing is every xtian is self selected. All it takes is the belief that they are xtian and that's all it takes to be an xtian.
