Bernie Sanders supporters in Texas are "pissed off." But Texas Democrats need them in November.

The brewery broke out in a standing ovation and raucous applause at an election night watch party in East Austin Tuesday evening after early statewide vote returns showed Bernie Sanders with a solid lead over Joe Biden.

Amid the excitement, a Sanders campaign organizer encouraged attendees to fill their cups with beer and other libations and stock up on a menu that included pizza and burgers.

“In Travis County, Austin, we just delivered for Bernie Sanders really freakin’ big,” Austin City Council Member Greg Casar, who publicly endorsed Sanders in January, told an already brimming crowd. “The moment is upon us.”

But that moment quickly faded.

It ended up being a tough night for Sanders’ loyalists and the candidate himself, who was unable to overcome an organized push by Biden and the party’s more centrist faction to slow the Vermont senator’s early-state momentum.

Though the early voting results offered promise to the self-proclaimed democratic socialist, the one-time front-runner for the nomination, election day returns dealt a fatal blow in the state. Biden received about 34% of the Texas vote, compared to Sanders’ 30%, according to the Texas Secretary of State.

“I’m pissed off,” Marlon Saucedo, a 25-year-old documentarian, said as final results showed a neck-and-neck race between the two white-haired septuagenarians. “There’s been a lot of push against Sanders and it makes me feel very helpless. There’s always going to be a faction of the party trying to stop him.”

Alan Zaizar, 30, who wore a “Unidos Con Bernie” pin, said he won’t vote for Biden if he ends up being the party’s nominee.

I was heavy for Bernie in 2016. It wasn't until his supporters shenanigans at the convention that turned me off. I learned easily that the free concerts and food along with promises of free ice cream and unicorns was nothing but fodder. They quickly prove whether you can or can't get things done. It's not good enough just to have a vision and a philosophy. You need to make lots of friends and build broad coalitions. I'm sorry these folks are disappointed. But no one took anything from them. Their candidate let them down.

always manage to overcome the situation (maybe after a few days of grief) when their candidate has lost a race, and then they recover. Often, they come to accept why the loss happened, that maybe their candidate just wasn’t the one. Almost never do they harbor the paranoid suspicion that a mythical cabal conspired to “stop them.”

I’ve had candidates lose altogether before, after working for many months on their campaign. Sure, it’s really hard at first, and maybe I never get quite the same level of enthusiasm for the eventual nominee. But I’ve gone ahead and supported and voted.

I find this behavior excessive and odd, especially when they expect everyone else to vote for their candidate if he wins.

I have to say, for the first time in these many years, that I would probably gag a lot, maybe even throw up a little bit in my mouth, if I had to vote for Bernie Sanders in the general. I pray that I am never put in that position. But I’d never not vote. And I’d never say my candidate was robbed. I definitely would question the sanity of humanity, as I did when Trump took the election in 2016.

Always the whining and victimization but never actually analyzing the electorate and adjusting the message. Never any attempt to allay the fears of various groups who are threatened by the socialist talk.

The railing against the corporations and billionaires as evil doesn't help. Billionaires invest in corporations and most people are dependent directly or indirectly on local corporations.

People are smart to know that if the company I work for is taxed 50%, it will not be able to provide me work and/or benefits and may have to relocate somewhere else.

If a wall street transaction tax is implemented, the mutual funds I invest in via 401K will have to drop the yields because they trade hundreds of times a day in various stocks to balance the portfolios. It is not the billionaires who are invested in mutual funds - it is average middle class people who will be hurt.

Bernie's campaign should think of the effect it has on followers - they lose their sense of reality and are filled with anger and resentment. No one is entitled to a victory.

The ones who are in the Bernie cult of personality will never vote for anyone else. The people who feel they are left of Biden but engaged liberals will vote for the party. Ignore them. Had we done that after 16 we would not be here now.

If Donald Trump as president is not enough reason to get you to vote for a Democratic candidate you are lost to the Democratic Party. And probably would not vote anyway.

"There’s always going to be a faction of the party trying to stop him."
Oh GROW UP, Marlon! Boo hoo!

There was a "faction of the party trying to stop" Joe Biden too. Welcome to the REAL WORLD! It's a lot different than the rainbows and unicorn fantasy utopia that's being promised.

Alan Zaizar, 30, who wore a “Unidos Con Bernie” pin, said he won’t vote for Biden if he ends up being the party’s nominee.
Alan is going to do whatever he wants to do, and we would be wise to give up on a hopeless cause. Instead of spending hours stroking his ego and validating his irrational fear and hatred... instead of devoting so much time trying to bring ONE malcontent over to reality (and he probably won't vote anyway even if someone wears-him-down) that effort would be much more effectively spent gaining DOZENS of new voters.

So, just let one Alan Zaizar go... instead work to get DOZENS OF NEW VOTERS to take his place. That sounds like a good plan to me.
