Biden tweets on Warren - the fiercest of fighters for middle class families - leaving the race

Two tweets posted about an hour ago, starting here, full text below:

Senator @EWarren is the fiercest of fighters for middle class families. Her work in Washington, in Massachusetts, and on the campaign trail has made a real difference in people's lives. We needed her voice in this race, and we need her continued work in the Senate.

And to Bailey: Champ and Major would love to have you over any time.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Mar 2020

I would like to see Joe bring in more progressive voters into his campaign. Maybe Warren for VP? I also think Joe should even make overtures to Bernie's supporters. I am sure that there is a small, hard core of Sanders people that will not support Biden no matter what, Bernie-or-Bust types.

That said, there are probably a substantial number of Bernie supporters that might go over to Joe Biden should he be the nominee. I think it might be a good idea for Joe to talk to those people and try to bring in as many of them as possible into his campaign. If we have a big tent campaign that includes moderates and progressives, and then go after independents in the General Election, I think that we might be unstoppable in November.

Remember what happened last time for Ted Kennedy's seat? Scott Brown was appointed and went on to win the special election. I think we would have a much deeper bench this time than in that election, Martha Coakley was a terrible candidate. But why take a chance? This time we could have AG Maura Healy, my favorite, Rep. Katherine Clark, and Rep Seth Moulton. Also a chance to have Joe Kennedy if he loses to Markey.

Thu Mar 5, 2020, 05:56 PM

Deval Patrick was governor. I think your confusion was that in 2004, Massachusetts changed the law so the Governor would not appoint a Senator. At that point, Kerry was running for President and Romney was governor. The law at that time, would have allowed Romney to appoint someone and that person would be in until the next federal election. It was changed to leaving the seat vacant and having a special election. (It would not be vacant that long as the process would have started the day after election and Kerry could have voted in the lame duck session until he resigned - maybe the day before he was sworn in as President.

When Kennedy died, the MA legislature acted on a letter from Kennedy proposing that it was wrong to leave the seat vacant that long - proposing that a person committed NOT to run be appointed so MA would be represented. Kerry was one of the people who spoke to the legislature. At that time, MA had a veto proof legislature. It passed and Kirk was appointed. This was very important because without Kirk, ACA would not have passed.

he wouldn't say it now.

For one thing, the Sanders supporters would go full conspiracy theory.

Second, it would be unseemly and presumptuous to talk about a role in his Administration when she hasn't endorsed anyone yet. PUts her on the spot.

Third, her Senate position would likely be replaced by a GOPPER.

So, it's not quite time yet for that, if ever

Bernie Sanders
@BernieSanders

@ewarren has taken on the most powerful corporate interests because she cares about those who have been left behind. Without her, the progressive movement would not be nearly as strong as it is today. I know that she'll stay in this fight and we are grateful that she will.

Bernie Sanders
@BernieSanders

Sen. Warren has run an extraordinary campaign of ideas – demanding that the wealthy pay their fair share, ending corruption in Washington, guaranteeing health care for all, addressing climate change, tackling the student debt crisis and vigorously protecting women's rights.
