Did Klobuchar just spill the beans on her role in Biden's campaign?

My guess is it was a Freudian slip but it wouldn't surprise me if Biden made a similar offer to Buttigieg in exchange for their endorsement of him.

If Amy resigned and Peggy Flanagan had to put together a hasty-pudding campaign, there's always the danger that the senate seat could be lost. And what if, heaven forfend, Trump were to win in November? Then Amy would have forfeited her senate seat needlessly.

Far better, if Amy became a running mate, would be to resign only after a victory in November. Democratic MN Governor Tim Walz would then appoint a successor, who would hold the seat until a special election in November 2022. That would be plenty of time for that successor to build a proper election campaign.

As you point out, there's no need to resign from a senate seat in order to run for another office. Neither Obama, nor Biden, nor Kaine, nor Kerry resigned while running. No one would.

That was the point of my reply to the poster who suggested that Amy would need to make sure to resign early enough to give another Democrat adequate time to run as her replacement.

First Walz could appoint Flanagan right away and she would be running as the incumbent and with Amy on the ballot in Minnesota.

She would be up in 2014 anyway and the only reason not to do so would imply that Biden/Klobuchar loses. If that happens it probably would be better to get as far away from Washington as possible. Look at what happened to Paul Ryan.

She would automatically be in the conversation from the start of that cycle. Much better to spend the time converting the national network that the even losing run would allow into a tight team under a leadership Pac where she can focus on shoring up her profile. Hit 2022 very hard and gain the cred and come into the 2024 campaign season with a fully developed team and deep national network.

Not only did she deliver Minnesota and would take it off the board and narrow Trump's path. Biden needs a clear and logical understudy to mitigate some of the doubts. Amy provides that clearer then anyone else in the race.

Additionally it is a clear play for the newest and shakiest part of the coalition, Suburban women.

Once the Obamas are unleashed, Amy brings the one thing that nobody else does right now. A level of credibility and familiarity in and with deep red Rural America that could allow just enough of a tinge of pink to really expand the playing field.

24. The Minnesota electorate is 87% white with 4% more conservatives than liberals
Sat Mar 7, 2020, 11:18 PM
Mar 2020

That is hardly solid blue. It is exactly the type of state that we can't take for granted. Hillary got barely above 46% and won by 1.5%.

We can take states for granted if they have more self-identified liberals than conservatives. That includes most of the northeastern states other than New Hampshire, and states like Oregon and California. Washington state now has slightly more liberals than conservatives. Likewise New Mexico.

But it is incredibly foolish to take states for granted just because they have a recent blue history, if the ideological split is not markedly different than the nation itself. The nation is 9% more conservatives than liberals. All of those states we lost narrowly in 2016 are close to the national ideological split.

I really wish the campaigns would poll that aspect and not the candidate to candidate preference. We would not have wasted time in places like Ohio and North Carolina in 2016 if we realized they were going to report such a wide ideological split. Ohio was all the way up to a 19% gap...39% conservatives and 20% liberals. That is no chance territory. Yet we idiotically were chasing that state while assuming victory in so many states that were very close to the national ideological breakdown. North Carolina was no chance whatsoever at 43% conservatives and 22% liberals.

Against an incumbent we have to double down on ideology. It has to be moderate flanked by moderate. Otherwise you are really rolling the dice in those pivotal states. Nobody seems to grasp how extraordinarily difficult it is to oust an incumbent. Only Jimmy Carter has lost in Trump's situation in more than a century...incumbent whose party has been in power only one term.

I'd go with Beto or Klobuchar. They were my 1-2 picks for the top of the ticket.

I do not understand why people haven't figured this out yet. I'm not saying we should abandon any state (if only for down ballot reasons), but we have to first secure what we can. That cannot involve any dilution of our standard bearers core message and appeal.

Another candidate than Biden may have had a bit more flexibility. But the idea of Bide is firmly implanted into the voting consciousness (as is the idea of Sanders). Much like the Clinton/Gore double down it will be important for Biden to find a true and perceived logical partner.

This is not 2016. The reality of Trump is an entirely different thing then the idea of Trump.

Arizona is also a swing state. Just because it hasn’t voted blue doesn’t mean it cannot switch.

A swing state is a state that could potentially shift its preferences back and forth between the candidates of the two major political parties, the Republicans and the Democrats , in a U.S. Presidential Election. Swings states, which are also called battleground states, are in play in presidential elections where the popular vote is close so that the electoral college outcome is up for grabs.

Claiming that it is over and over again doesn’t make it so. It is a solid blue state with a Democratic Governor and two Democratic Senators. Polling in the state already shows an unnamed democrat will beat Trump. Florida is a swing state better to find a VP that will help there and secure its 29 electoral votes than Minnesota’s already secure 10 votes.

Sorry need to make one correction: the latest polls in Minnesota show Biden beating Trump by 12 points and Sanders beating him by 9.

the 2020 nomination, only 3 Democrats in the 192 year history of the party (Truman, barely, Buchanan, and the first Dem POTUS, Andrew Jackson) would have been older the fist time they were sworn in. The same even goes for Kamala Harris now, in 2020.

If Biden loses in 2020 and Klobuchar won in 2024, she would be the oldest first time Democrat President ever.

Your insinuating that Vice President Biden has made similar offers to other candidates however is simply more evidence, now coming out by the minute that Sanders devotees will take any simple occurrence twist it, poison it , exaggerate it, fabricate it, hallucinate about it because in their zero sum existence the only hope they have is to try and undermine the character of Joe Biden

It is a lie

Biden has a 5 decade record of decency.

Your reckless accusations do nothing to harm, they do reveal a lot about your lack of character.

It also confirms a wide and deep picture we have of Sanders supports and by extension the candidate you support.

Go Biden/Klobuchar.

--or unrecommending her--I am seeing the more likely choice for him as of right now.
He also has room for Amy's challenges.
He has room for plenty of people's challenges--and none of them are perfect.
I hope he waits a while and let's some things shake out but of course am very curious!
P.S. I just read that Kamala would not endorse while Elizabeth was still in the game.
