Mario Cuomo tore the roof off. He was a great speaker. Always wondered why he didn't run for the WH but heard/read rumors there were skeletons in the closet that made a bid shaky at best. Still, he could get a crowd on their feet in a NY heartbeat.

If the son is as good as the father, it would be a memorable occasion. Governor Cuomo has had glimmers of that oratory power in several of his Covid-19 Q&A's and a recent NPR discussion I stumbled over. He was really good--strong, precise and genuinely empathetic.

Good keynote candidate. But you're right, we have a number of skilled speakers.

And one who’s a woman would be a big nod to the biggest voting group Democrats have.

From Congress, not Warren, because she gave the keynote last time, so another great Democratic woman deserves a chance to shine.I’d go with Katie Porter, Veronica Escobar, Val Demmings or Lauren Underwood.

For governors/gubernatorial candidates, Stacy Abrams, Gretchen Whitmer and Michelle Lujan Grisham in New Mexico would also be great choices.

I know the speech given the night of the nomination is a key spot, but there are so many important speakers I would like to see each of the following given a prime time spot:

Elizabeth Warren
Katie Porter or AOC representing the current freshman reps
Gretchen Whitmer
Corey Booker or Julian Castro

But he might overshadow Joe because Obama overshadows everyone.

Then, surprisingly I would say Beshear. The Kentucky governor. He is more moderate than me. And would not give a stemwinder of a talk. But has become a super popular democratic governor in a really red state.

A man of faith, which I am not nor are many here on DU. But most democrats are and most Americans are. He has no problem reconciling his faith with the Democratic message. I think it would send a powerful message to America that the the Democratic Party represents all Americans.

Barack Obama (because we could use a reprise of 2004)
Adam Schiff (because he's brilliant)
Jennifer Granholm (because she's brilliant, too, and she can hold a big room in the palm of her hand)
Pete Buttegieg (because he's pretty brilliant, too, even if I speak more languages than he does! LOL)
Jay inslee (because has a great grasp on what challenges face us)
Bill Clinton (because he's a mesmerizing speaker, too)

I'm sure there are others. We have a VERY deep bench of potential speakers who can crystallize the number of things Democrats care deeply about, put them in terms we all understand, and do so with great eloquence. The keynote speech should not leave out mentioning the presidential nominee, which is why Obama heads my list. No one alive has worked more closely with him for longer, or knows him better. Obama's first keynote speech was one for the ages. If he gets a second one, I would bet that it would be any less so.
