(81,513 posts)True, there arent many efforts to pretend that Donald Trump is a paragon of honesty. But its hard to escape the impression that hes being graded on a curve. If he manages to read from a TelePrompter without going off script, hes being presidential. If he seems to suggest that he wouldnt round up all 11 million undocumented immigrants right away, hes moving into the mainstream. And many of his multiple scandals, like what appear to be clear payoffs to state attorneys general to back off investigating Trump University, get remarkably little attention.
Meanwhile, we have the presumption that anything Hillary Clinton does must be corrupt, most spectacularly illustrated by the increasingly bizarre coverage of the Clinton Foundation. ...
So I would urge journalists to ask whether they are reporting facts or simply engaging in innuendo, and urge the public to read with a critical eye. If reports about a candidate talk about how something raises questions, creates shadows, or anything similar, be aware that these are all too often weasel words used to create the impression of wrongdoing out of thin air.

(2,412 posts)Do not echo put downs of Democratic Party candidates. Do not take the bait that the bots are offering. Talk about your candidates platforms and good points and call out those who bash. Stay classy!

(32,640 posts)Not surprised. You don't have the nerve to defend that smear, so you go silent when called out.

(58,785 posts)angry because they could only endorse one candidate and chose the woman who's devoted her professional life to improving the wellbeing of women and children.
Of course, in retrospect he must have been trying to turn that to advantage by appealing to the conservatives he was trying to draw. But then I assumed he was just, as usual, viewing all who weren't in his train as problems to stomp.

(32,640 posts)But I guess if one believes that they are the measure of all that is "progressive" whosoever does not fall in behind is "corrupt" or to use the perjorative unironically used by a 30 years on Capitol Hill career politician, "establishment."
