Again, this is a C-rated poll, not the most reliable.

Gravis Marketing has released its first 2020 Iowa Caucus poll and finds Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders tied atop the field with the Pete Buttigieg running 5 points behind. Behind Biden, Sanders and Buttigieg are Harris and Warren at 6%, O’Rourke at 5%, Booker and Klobuchar at 4%, Delaney at 2% and everyone else at or below 1%. While the exact numbers will vary throughout the state at various precincts, the important threshold is 15% which is the lowest possible viability threshold for a precinct caucus.

Biden and Sanders both have measurable support across all age groups, but Biden is the strongest among those over 65 while Sanders is strongest among 18-29-year-old caucus goers. Interestingly, the O’Rourke and Buttigieg don’t register any support among the 18-29 block. Sanders and Biden register in the double digits through most ideological groups. Biden leads Sanders among moderates 26%-17% and somewhat liberal Democrats 19%-13%. Sanders leads 27%-26% among somewhat conservative Democrats, 40%-27% among very conservative Democrats and 24%-9% among very liberal Democrats.

There is also a notable educational divide with Sanders leading 31%-35% among those with only a high school diploma and Biden leading 23%-15% among those with a bachelor’s degree. Among those with a post graduate degree, Buttigieg takes 22% with Biden, Sanders and Harris tied at 11%.

Biden get roughly equal support from men and women -- 18.6% and 19.2% respectively -- while the support for Sanders is weighted toward men, 23.5% versus 15.9% of women. That tends to indicate that the attacks on Biden launched by Sanders supporter Lucy Flores haven't had much effect on Biden's support among women.

Biden also got 64.4% of the small number of African Americans polled, compared to 21.5% for Kamala Harris, and 0% fpr Sanders. However, this was a tiny polling sample, only 3% of the 590 voters polled, though that does match Iowa demographics.

It's interesting that Sanders leads among Democrats who describe themselves as very conservative. I suppose those are the ones who might vote for Trump instead if Sanders isn't the nominee.

Btw, the moderate and somewhat liberal groups where Biden leads are 60% of Dems in this poll. The considervative and very liberal groups where Sanders leads are 40%.

2. Yes, very surprising that Bernie would lead among somewhat conservative and very

conservative Democrats. I would have thought he would have gotten most from the liberal leaning sections.

3. Wait until Biden formally becomes a candidate in a few days, that will change. But, to be honest...

....in my opinion Iowa doesn't represent a cross section of the United States.

Iowa has less than 1% of the population, and barely 100,000 are African Americans. Other ethnic groups are even lower than that.
