Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumProgressive Group Attacks Biden's Candidacy
"With the Democratic field now crystalizing as a battle between moderate and progressive wings, were seeing something we havent seen since the 2008 Democratic primary: a real battle for the soul of the Democratic Party.Almost immediately following Vice President Joe Bidens announcement of his intention to seek the 2020 Democratic nomination, a group calling itself Justice Democrats released a statement assailing Biden as being part of the old guard that failed to stop Trump:
The group, which has buoyed high-profile lawmakers like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), slammed Biden as a relic of the Democratic Partys old guard who opposes policies favored by the progressive base.
The old guard of the Democratic Party failed to stop Trump, and they cant be counted on to lead the fight against his divide-and-conquer politics today. The party needs new leadership with a bold vision capable of energizing voters in the Democratic base who stayed home in 2016, the group said in a statement.
Democrats are increasingly uniting around progressive populist policies like Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, free college, rejecting corporate money, and ending mass incarceration and deportation. We dont need someone who voted for the Iraq War, for mass incarceration, and for the Bankruptcy Reform Act while voting against gay marriage, reproductive rights, and school desegregation.

(11,238 posts)That would be Daniel Hilferty, who is also on the board of Americas Health Insurance Plans, the trade association working to defeat the progressive push for Medicare for All. He has exclusively donated to Republicans this year, records show. He gave $5,000 to Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

(39,374 posts)I like him, but I also think Democrats need to decide if they can ever change this country without fundamentally changing their relationship with corporate money. That conversation was going to happen anyway, but Bidens presence will put a spotlight on it.

(130,908 posts)I listen to classical music radio all day, until 7:00 NewsHour, so am not TOO preoccupied with blather, not in my ears anyway.
Went to laundromat (NOT a frequent stop for me,) and mercifully The View was on the TV, so did get to see and hear Joe. Pleased about that.
Back to music now!

(81,488 posts)"Obviously the genes of women are flawed. They are poorly designed creatures who don't nearly want to have sex as often as needed for the human race to get along fruitfully and peacefully," Uygur, now 47, wrote at the time.
In another post called "The Rules of Dating," Uygur explains what should happen physically as the dating process progresses.
"Women, ignore these at your peril, he wrote in 2000. Rule 1: There must be some serious making out by the third date. If I havent felt your tits by then, things are not about to last much longer. In fact, if you dont get back on track by the fourth date, youre done.
"Rule 2: There must be orgasm by the fifth date.

An article calling Biden a "relic" should NOT be permitted here, especially since Justice Democrats has been less that forthcoming in its finances and the people behind the organization.
Quite honestly, though, I think many Biden supporters are happy that Justice Democrats are not endorsing Biden - their success rate is under 10%, and about 3% when you consider only new candidates. Last year they endorsed 76 candidates, only 7 won. Of those that won three were already incumbents and one ran unopposed.

(15,369 posts)is not at all "progressive," IMO. I, for one, am disgusted that this faddish "progressive" label defines individuals who didn't support the best Dem Presidential candidate in 2016 and thus helped to give us all the WORST Occupant of the WH EVER.
I am very proud to be a LIBERAL and will always be proud to support liberal candidates.
Biden is not my top preference. But the individuals in this group are neither trustworthy nor liberal.
They can take their "progressive" litmus test and stuff it "where the sun don't shine."

(1,009 posts)the past couple yrs that some of these groups, and even some large resistance accts on social media, are there to trip us up in 2020. People need to stay awake, as well as put their blinders on and vote for the person who is most likely to win against trump. To be only concerned about purity tests is NOT a strategy to win. Were up against psychological warfare here. If these groups are legit, theyre living in a fantasyland where this is the average election cycle.
In the mueller report, russia was favoring bernie and trump. Ask yourself why russia also pushed people to the far right and far left. Because that was where bernie and trump were, and Hillary was not.
