Presidential hopeful Beto ORourke unveiled his environmental agenda in Californias Yosemite Valley Monday, declaring it the most ambitious climate plan in the history of the United States only to have the proposal immediately assailed by environmentalists who said it does not go far enough.
Under the plan which would includes $1.5 trillion investment intended to mobilize an additional $5 trillion over 10 years ORourke says the United States can achieve net zero emissions by 2050. It includes broad promises to rejoin the Paris agreement, cut pollution, and protect communities impacted by fires, floods, droughts and hurricanes.
We have one last chance to unleash the ingenuity and political will of hundreds of millions of Americans to meet this moment before its too late, ORourke said Monday.
But the former Texas congressman had barely wiped the Yosemite Falls mist from his brow when the Sunrise Movement, the youth-led grassroots organization that has helped propel the Green New Deal into the popular consciousness, ripped what it saw as an incrementalist approach.

(2,113 posts)Beto's plan includes midwest farmers and would take care of coal miners. Beto knows that any plan must be palatable to ALL people or it will be DOA.
"This investment will support the pensions and health care benefits that are owed to the workers, including those in the coal industry, who have built our economy over the last century by risking their lives and investing their labor. At the same time, it will also invest in the workers who will build our economy over the next century to support an America with cleaner air, cleaner water, and a more resilient and fair economy that can compete and lead around the world."

(11,653 posts)Wasn't it the Sunrise Movement that released a deceptively edited video to make Diane Feinstein look bad? Yeah, their opinion on Beto's Climate Change Plan doesn't mean that much to me.
