SCOTUS heads into new term backed by 'emotional support billionaires' - Velshi - MSNBC

The Supreme Court kicks off its new term with several high-profile cases including ghost guns, transgender rights, and the death penalty. But a series of ethics scandals and historic low approval ratings have cast a long shadow over the new term. Justices backed by “ emotional support billionaires” and corporate interests have contributed to the public’s loss of faith, says Melissa Murray, a law professor at New York University.

The Supreme Court has accrued more power than actual voters, adds Elie Mystal, The Nation's justice correspondent. “We should be doing everything we can to have the elected branches of government–Congress and the President– control our most important decisions, as opposed to nine unaccountable judges,” Mystal says. - Aired on 10/06/2024.
