GOP Trump critic Rep. Don Bacon on listening to both sides and why he voted for Trump's megabill - Velshi

Congressman Don Bacon, Republican from Nebraska, has announced his intent to retire from the House at the end of his current term. Bacon has become known as one of the few Republicans willing to openly criticize Trump and engage in good faith with Democrats. “I think Republicans should get on MSNBC or CNN and try to defend our positions, or at least listen to the other perspective,” Bacon tells Ali Velshi.

He also explains why, despite previous qualms with the scale of its cuts to Medicaid, he ultimately voted for Trump’s massive spending and policy bill, saying “I had to weigh this bill in its totality,” and admitting “I do think there's some areas that we can continue to tweak.” - Aired on 07/05/2025.
