So then Hegseth's Dept of War never did a standard "Course Of Action Analysis" to compare the weapons sytems and tactical options that the attacking force (US and Israel) have against what Iran had to respond with based upon what we know about their warfighting doctrine and then say "Bluefor starts with ....." "Redfor counters with ...." then, taking into account the effects of the first encounter on each side "Bluefor follows up with" and so forth and so on and run it through several times against various possible choices in the sequence of events?

Also, performing a Civil Affairs, Economic and Political analysis to consider and work through the political and economic responses to the initial action and the follow up actions from the Iranians and then the response from the rest of the world's leaders and the world's markets.

Trump just thought that the US has so much great weapons systems it will be easy.

Iran has mined the Straight of Hormuz before in 1988. And the Gulf states were not consulted on whether or not they wanted to be dragged into a war.

But, Trump has had calls with Putin. He has proposed dropping sanctions to allow Russia to sell their oil at the new inflated price. The Russians are reportedly helping the Iranians target US and allied military bases and yet Trump talks to them.

Next, Trump and Hegseth will probably say we can't afford to fight Iran and support Ukraine at the same time so Ukraine has to agree to a deal and Putin is going to want the Donbas, Luhansk, and Crimea.

Everything they do at some point always connects to Russia.
