to send people back to the moon... or to Mars...
robots, sure. send 100s...

people require a lot of support systems, and provide little to no functional advantage.

robots can endure long flights, can operate independently, and gather more scientific data than people.

I say this as a former NASA scientist with 10 years at the agency.. and one dead co-worker from the Columbia shuttle disaster.

I remember when I was in elementary school they'd bring a TV into the classroom so we could watch. But given all the mess we're in right now, I'd think we'd have other priorities.

And I do remember watching the Columbia shuttle on TV, heartbreaking.
