Israel Uses "Gaza Playbook" to Turn Southern Lebanon into Rubble

Israeli forces continue to bombard towns in southern Lebanon today, according to Lebanese state media. Several people were killed in a strike on the coastal town of Ansariya. According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, Israeli attacks have killed over 2,100 people, wounding nearly 7,000. Over 1 million Lebanese have been displaced, and 40,000 homes have been destroyed or heavily damaged. We go to Beirut, where we’re joined by investigative journalist Lylla Younes. Her family’s village in the southern border municipality of Bint Jbeil was bombed yesterday.

“It’s not just real estate that is lost when these homes are destroyed. It’s not just a house. Our grandparents built these structures,” says Younes. “What the world should know is that we will return to these villages, and when we do, we’ll return to rubble, and it will be an immense process of rebuilding.” She notes the Israeli military is using the same tactics in Lebanon as in Gaza, having flattened not only homes, but “vast swaths of Gaza’s cultural heritage, universities, mosques, archives.”

... and Israelis are going to have to live down Netanyahu. I don't think we can fairly blame every Israeli for Bibi's crimes any more than American Liberals can be blamed for Trump's malicious evil. Both of these psychotic bastards are gonna have to pay, one way or another.

7. Netanyahu is more popular now than before Oct 7th.

Gaza was a huge hit with Israelis. Now Iran and Lebanon too. They support his warmongering and scorched earth tactics by a huge majority.. He is poised to win the next election if it were held today.

Pinning this all on Netanyahu is letting the broader society off the hook. It's a societal, ideological problem and it won't be solved once Netanyahu is gone, unfortunately. It's a fact that must be acknowledged.

It was a huge miscalculation clearly. What ended up happening was not what was planned. It was to be essentially an in and out hostage-taking endeavour. Hamas did not plan for the scenario that unfolded at the supposedly highly-guarded border, and then later when it was overrun by Gaza civilians while the IDF was nowhere to be found. There were crimes of opportunity and it was a bloodbath and horrific. But planned as such, knowing it would lead to the destruction of Palestine? No.

... there can be no doubt about that, and Israel has embraced a siege mentality for virtually all its existence, which Netanyahu has exploited to his benefit.
West Banks "settlers" have perpetuated illegal actions that Menachem Begin bragged about when describing what he did in '47 and '48. Netanyahu's popularity with Right-Wing groups parallels that of Trump's with the mental defectives in the MAGA movement, and I excuse no one in either extremist camp. America has earned all the opprobrium it's received on the international stage, and it will be decades before we regain the trust of the world at large, if we ever get it at all.
Religious fanaticism is the root cause of most of the conflicts in the world today, at least those that aren't the echoes of Britain's colonial empire building and America's murderous "Manifest Destiny".
Israel's destiny is of far lesser concern to me than what is happening right under our noses in our own country. Christian Nationalists are no different, and certainly no better, than the bloodthirsty psychopaths that rile up the nutcases in any religious movement in any part of the world. But you cannot rehabilitate a psychopath; you can only contain it, or subject it to the ultimate punishment. All that said, we gotta clean our own house of Right-wing influences before we point fingers at anyone else's skeleton-filled closets.
The Right does absolutely nothing of value for anyone except to give tax breaks to billionaires that don't need it, and SURE as fuck don't deserve it, and all at the expense of those who can least afford it.
As I've said more times that I can count, conservatism deserves an ignominious seat at the Dark End of the Sociopathy Spectrum, or the entire planet, along with everyone and everything on it, will perish, and not with a bang, but a whimper.
