But he is young. Perhaps he has a strategy to use his remaining days at CNN to make a name for himself as an honest broker, and then build a footprint in new media.

We have seen in recent elections that big ad spends on legacy media simply have not delievered the votes they once did. It is my hope that 2026 is the year when it becomes apparent to everybody in the Beltway machine that the media landscape has shifted permanently away from the old Tim Russert softball-with-no-followup days. It does seem that ABC and NBC (plus their spinoff MSNOW) are getting the message that there is no future in kissing authoritarian ass. Maybe they can maintain a place in the new media world.

As an example, the sports radio programs in my area all do simultaneous streaming on Youtube. they all have their programs available later the same day via podcast, and via their own app. Some of them freely give out cell numbers for listerers to text comments and questions. Their guests typically have 3 gigs or more now, maybe writing for the newspaper, being guests on the evening TV stports programs, plus podasts of their own. And some of them write books or produce sports camps.

This is the new world, and it works because the audience is consuming through the new channels. We can all lament the fall of CNN, but the most important thing is to make sure we are strong in the new media. People are trying, but it looks like a bunch of individual efforts. We really need the Party to lead the way on this, and this just is not going to happen with the old "leadership" that clings to the key positions. We must get our younger starts in to the decision-making positions.
