Let's talk about Minnesota, Greenland, troops, and coincidence.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Minnesota, Greenland, troops, and coincidence.

Okay. Two different groups of US troops are either on their way or are on alert to head to Minnesota. It's led to a bunch of questions because of something that seems like a weird coincidence. Let's do the easy one first.

Minnesota has mobilized its National Guard. Those troops will be wearing green reflective vests to differentiate themselves from other camo clad forces in the area. Now, these troops are there for the normal reasons the guard gets called out and are under state control. There's been some demonstrations and more are expected, so they're coming out.

There's already commentary about how their weapons don't appear to have mags in them. Three things. One, they'd obviously have access to live ammunition. Two, why are there currently demonstrations? Because a shooting happened and polling says a majority of Americans believes it was unjustified. Maybe lowering the temperature by limiting the possibility of more shootings is a good idea. Three, if the National Guard is capable of handling the demonstrations without lethal force and using their weapons, what does that say about how things have been handled so far?

Okay, now let's go on to the one that so many of you asked about. Trump has also ordered active duty troops on alert for a potential deployment to Minnesota. And by a super weird coincidence, the unit being spun up is the 11th Airborne. Yes, the same unit we've been talking about all week because it's the only division we have truly trained in Arctic warfare and would be necessary for a move against Greenland.

That's led to two lines of questioning. The first is, "Hey, is the alert a front to get them ready for a move on Greenland?" The second is simply weird. Why is it when you mention a specific unit, they show up in the news a week later?

First question, is it a front? It's possible, but it looks like they're only spinning up about 1,500 troops. It seems unlikely that even this administration is arrogant enough to believe it would be wise to move on Greenland and possibly trigger a NATO response with just 1,500 troops. But I absolutely refuse to rule out a potential action from this administration simply because it's a horrible idea.

Now to the weird coincidence part. Maybe it's just a coincidence. Or maybe Trump ordered some troops spun up and some smart people in the Pentagon were like, "Hey, Minnesota is cold. Let's send Arctic troops." It would give them a chance to engage in a mock deployment. Of course, the 11th Airborne Division also only has two brigade combat teams. So, if one of them were deployed to Minnesota, it would limit Trump's ability to deploy them to Greenland.

I'm not saying that somebody in the Pentagon selected this specific unit to engage in some form of malicious compliance. That would never happen. The people responsible for this decision clearly wanted to give the 11th more training because Trump has total control of the Pentagon and the troops totally support him. It was definitely not an attempt to throw up a roadblock and slow things down a bit to give a chance for cooler heads to prevail.

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
