Let's talk about Trump, texts, tensions, treasuries, and toddlers.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump, text, tensions, treasuries, and toddlers.

Like a high schooler stood up for prom, Trump has taken to posting text messages and memes on social media. He posted texts from both the French president and the secretary general of NATO. It's unclear what Trump was trying to do, but the messages themselves show how world leaders don't respect Trump, but are instead treating him like a toddler. They both use the same format. Trump, you did a good job with brushing your teeth every night this week, but you could do better with cleaning your room. We'll work together, and I'll try to help you by giving you a treat.

Now, with mom logic in mind, here's the secretary general's message. "Mr. President, Dear Donald, what you accomplished in Syria today is incredible. I will use my media engagement in Davos to highlight your work there in Gaza and in Ukraine. I am committed to finding a way forward on Greenland. Can't wait to see you." Yours, Mark.

The French president, "My friend, we are totally in line on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland. Let us try to build great things. One, I can set up a G7 meeting after Davos in Paris on Thursday afternoon. I can invite the Ukrainians, the Danish, the Syrians, and the Russians in the margins. Two, let us have a dinner together in Paris together on Thursday before you go back to the US.”

The US status as a superpower hangs in the balance and our allies are managing the president like a child. Guys, as a mom, compliment sandwiches work better. Good thing. Thing that needs improvement, good thing. Incentive for improvement. Just saying.

Back to high school antics. Trump posted an edited image showing world leaders looking at a map with a US flag covering Canada, Greenland, and Venezuela. The original image was the world leaders looking at a map of Ukraine. You know, that war Trump said he'd end in a day. That's still going on because Putin is stringing him along like the backup date for prom.

But there is some good news. Trump seems to think he somehow succeeded in Venezuela despite the Maduro government still being in power, the oil companies telling him no, and no known changes to elicit production. Maybe they can just tell him Greenland belongs to the US and take him to visit the US base that already exists there and he'll drop it.

Outside of Trump's fantasy land of memes, there is some real news. At time of recording, the Dow, the S&P 500, and the NASDAQ are struggling to stay up. The markets are definitely trying to ignore the rising issues and certain economic damage Trump is causing. Canada is reportedly working on refining their contingency plans for war with the US and a Danish pension fund is saying it will exit its position on US treasuries by the end of the month. The chief investment officer for the fund said, “the US is basically not a good credit and long-term the US government finances are not sustainable.”

There's going to be more on that later because the EU dumping US treasuries on mass is the equivalent of an economic nuclear exchange. Both sides end up damaged. But like nukes, the option comes on the table when existential threats emerge like territorial incursion. They're also better positioned to withstand the fallout, so to speak. Get ready for a busy week of news. I'll try to pass you another note after study hall.

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
