Related: About this forumTrump goes mask off with insane update - Another Day - Brian Tyler Cohen
BTC: Donald Trump is in Davos for the World Economic Forum. Yes, a city packed with rich white people, otherwise known as his happiest place on earth. This is just another day.
All eyes were on the American president today as he swept into Davos with one singular demand, ownership of Greenland. And if there's one thing that we and his sexual assault victims know about Trump, it's that he does not take no for an answer.
(cut to video)
CBS News 24/7 Host 1: We have breaking news. President Trump has said he has a quote framework of a deal in place regarding Greenland.
CBS News 24/7 Host 2: The president out on social media saying that he's got a framework for a future deal on Greenland with NATO. A framework for a future deal.
CBS News 24/7 Reporter: I think the real question is what exactly is this deal?
(cut to studio)
BTC: Oh, come on. What does it matter what's in the deal? Do people want to know what's in their hot dogs? I don't think so. Framework for a future deal is exactly what Donald Trump promised. But if you're going to whine and cry about it, he is more than happy to share some of the details.
(cut to video)
Trump: It's a great deal for everybody. It's right now a little bit in progress, but pretty far along. It gets us everything we needed to get.
(cut to video)
CNN Reporter: Does it still include the United States having ownership of Greenland like you've said you wanted?
Trump: Uh, it's a long-term deal. It's the ultimate long-term deal.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Oh, so I guess just like our hot dogs, this deal is also filled with horseshit.
Yes, in a move that surprised absolutely no one, Donald Trump ended his day in Davos with a loss, but claimed it as a victory and frankly, it doesn't matter that much to him because that's not really what Trump went to Davos for anyway. He went there to show the world just how happy it makes him to be surrounded by rich people.
(cut to video)
Trump: I don't even ask anybody how you doing now. It's like everybody is making so much money. Oh, look who I see. Tim. Hi, Tim Cook. He's done some job. You have done really some job. And we have so many people in this room that have done a job. I don't know how many have done better than Tim, but some are right up there with you. We better. You better get your ass moving. I'll tell you.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Hear that? That's what a roast looks like in Davos. Telling Tim Cook you better move his ass before he's forced to move down a rung on the Forbes list. [laughter] What's next? Oh, look. Jamie Diamond's here. Hey, Jamie. That your private jet outside or did Elon's G5 take a dump on the runway? [laughter] script says wealthy laugh. So that's the best I got.
Donald Trump is so excited to be swimming in a pool of wealthy people that he's just mildly detached when it comes to how he actually sounds.
(cut to video)
Trump: And I made a statement the other day, thank goodness for robots because we're never going to have enough people to run all these places that are being built and I think robots are actually going to be a very big business. I think it's going to be surprisingly big, but I think we're going to need it.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Well, that's great news for all those out of work robots right now. I mean, sure, layoffs in 2025 are at the highest level that they've been in 5 years for humans, but who hasn't pulled up to an intersection and felt their heartstrings tugged upon seeing a destitute android?
But to be fair, isn't this the only way all of us sound when we're hanging out with our favorite people? We've got a relaxed attitude, renewed confidence, a feeling that we can say anything we want and we won't be judged for it.
(cut to video)
Trump: They're not there for us on Iceland. that I can tell you. I mean, our stock market took the first dip yesterday because of Iceland. So, Iceland's already cost us a lot of money.
(cut to studio)
BTC: In case you missed it, that was Donald Trump referring to Greenland as Iceland multiple times. A mistake most freshmen in high school wouldn't make, but our commander-in-chief seems to squeeze out on the world stage or so I thought, because it turns out I and millions of other people are actually wrong. Thanks to Karoline Leavitt pointing this out to a reporter. His written remarks referred to Greenland as a piece of ice because that's what it is. You're the only one mixing everything up here.
Boy, am I embarrassed. I completely forgot this is how Trump speaks all the time. Because while the rest of us have a depressingly limited vocabulary and are forced to just call countries by their name, this president's so erudite, so eloquent that he's able to describe the contents of things rather than just using their boring old name. We've all heard him. He doesn't call them fingers. He refers to them as pieces of hand. He never uses the term cloud. He just says piece of sky. And when he talks about his daughter, he uses the term piece of ass.
But seeing as a trip to Davos doesn't occur nearly as much as Donald Trump would like, he took this chance to remind everyone what America is really all about.
(cut to video)
Trump: Our country was built on merit and then all of a sudden we got away from that and people with A-averages and high college boards and everything were not able to get into colleges and people that had C averages and low college boards were getting in. And you know, it's not fair, but our country is based on merit. The whole concept and the whole system only works on merit.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Uh, merit? Hey, I guess if you can call Greenland Iceland, why not just swing for the fences and call your inheritance merit?
Look, it would be bad enough if our nation was being led by a money-hungry autocrat who consistently thumbed his nose at millions of lower and middle-income Americans, but what makes this all truly despicable is that he ran on a specific platform of not being that guy.
Donald Trump's entire campaign was spent dangling the prospect of populism. He ran around the country, well, not so much ran as waddled, and held rally after rally on the sole promise that only he could provide the average American with the life that they've been dreaming of.
Only he could bring down the food prices, make housing more affordable, and only he could create a system where American health care bills no longer plunge families into debt because he was like you. He understood you, but it was all a ruse. Donald Trump took all that trust, all that faith, and he fucked everyone over.
Instead of doing anything he promised, this president surrounded himself with all of his rich friends, and they've conspired to make themselves and their friends richer. And this past week has been the perfect illustration of exactly that. Here's Trump's Treasury Secretary in Davos showing how much he understands what the American people are going through.
(cut to video)
Scott Bessent: We are going to give guidance at some point to see what is a mom and pop that some someone maybe your parents for their retirement have bought 5, 10, 12 homes.
(cut to studio)
BTC: 5, 10, 12 homes. Americans are out here stressing about affording one home. And Scott Bessent is cavalierly rounding up vacation villas to the nearest baker's dozen.
And if that wasn't enough, here's Trump's top millionaire Doc in Davos telling retirees to hang in there for just one more year.
(cut to video with Maria Bartiromo)
Dr. Oz: Mar, I'll give you a number that's going to blow your mind because a lot of people watching this segment are thinking, "Oh, we're talking about healthcare expenses." This is about the value to the US economy. If we get this right, if we can get the average person watching to watch one to rather work one more year in their whole lifetime, just stay in your workplace for one more year, that is worth about $3 trillion to the US GDP.
(cut to studio)
BTC: And isn't that what most folks are looking to do in their last year before retirement? I mean, it's definitely on my bucket list.
Also, real quick, I'm not sure that we're going to get the most bias-free journalism on wealth disparity in America when Maria Bartiromo is dressed like Lady Gaga in House of Gucci.
Donald Trump gave the wealthy tax cuts, tax exemptions, and deregulated their companies all while cutting billions from food assistance, from Medicaid, and from child care services.
I mean, for God's sake, the man cut money from cancer research. That is a real thing done by a real person. Think about that. If you were watching a movie and in the first minute they showed you someone reading the newspaper with the headline, "Trump cuts cancer cash," you would instantly know that is the villain of this movie.
And while Donald Trump makes all these cuts, he's doing just fine. In a report by the New York Times, a review by the editorial board relying on analyses from news organizations shows that Mr. Trump has used the office of the presidency to make at least $1.4 billion. How does that stack up against his previous years?
(cut to video)
NYT Investigative Reporter Russ Buettner: This amount is really greater than the sum total of everything he made from his inheritance, from being on The Apprentice, and from all the licensing deals while he was on The Apprentice.
Anderson Cooper: It's more than he ever made in his whole life.
Russ Buettner: I think it's those things were his big profit centers because his business performance was uneven. So those three things that require really his golden days. This is more than that all in one year.
(cut to studio)
BTC: In one year, while hardworking Americans struggle to afford groceries, healthcare, and housing, Donald Trump has exploited the office of the presidency to make more money than he's earned in his entire life.
(cut to video)
Trump: But yeah, our country is based on merit.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Sure.
