Breaking: ICE shocks the country with insane arrest - Another Day - Brian Tyler Cohen

BTC: The Trump administration continues to apprehend the worst of the worst. Phew, thank God justice is being served. This is just another day.

One of Donald Trump's biggest campaign promises was his vow to deport the hardened criminals who were illegally living amongst us and terrorizing our communities. Well, looks like the president continues to make good on that pledge.

(cut to video on CBS Morning News)
Bystander: “Hey! They’re trying to take a kid.”

Reporter: More than half a dozen federal agents were seen on cell phone video Tuesday surrounding this 5-year-old boy wearing a bunny hat and a Spider-Man backpack. Liam Ramos was taken into custody along with his dad, Ecuadorian asylum seeker Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias.

BTC: Finally, Americans can feel safe in their homes and on their streets without fear of a 5-year-old coming by and trying to play with their Legos. Federal ICE agents in Minnesota detained this child as he arrived home from preschool because they were trying to arrest his father, who they said was here illegally. And look, I know this may sound harsh, but if he wanted to come into this country, all he had to do was present the port of entry and go about the process legally.

(cut to video)
Mark Prokosch: These are not illegal aliens. They came properly. They came legally and are pursuing illegal pathways.

Reporter: Attorney Mark Prokosch says Liam and his dad entered into the US at a port of entry legally in 2024 through the CBP1 immigration app and are in the process of seeking asylum.

BTC: Oh, so he did exactly what was asked of him and it still wasn't enough. Which is so odd because I remember someone saying that if you went through the proper process, you had nothing to worry about.

(cut to video)
JD Vance: There's a very basic principle in American immigration law that if you want to become an American citizen and you've done it the right way and the American people and their collective wisdom have welcomed you into our national community, then you become a citizen.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Gosh, it is such a basic principle. Perhaps if it was inscribed on the inside of Donald Trump's asshole Vance would have a better time remembering it.

So, this is where we are as a nation, roaming the streets and snatching up the children of immigrants who are trying to find a legal pathway to citizenship. I truly cannot think of anything worse.

(cut to video)
CBS Morning News Host: A lawyer for the family and school officials told us they believe ICE agents used that kid as bait to try and lure more of his family members out of their home.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Remind me to never say I truly can't think of anything worse when talking about this administration using children as bait to lure asylum seeking immigrants out of their homes. Sort of like a cheese on a mousetrap situation except with humans. But before you go around thinking that our ICE agents are truly heartless, DHS wants you to know that this kid actually had a pretty sweet hang with those officers.

(cut to video from NewsMax)
DHS Spokeswoman: Our law enforcement officers actually uh were taking care of the child, brought him to McDonald's, were playing his favorite music to really calm him down.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Oh my god, that is so nice of you guys. I can't think of anything that a 5-year-old boy wants more than a Happy Meal, besides perhaps a Happy Meal with his own family. But maybe I'm wrong? I mean, I don't have kids. For all I know, they love being detained outside in freezing cold weather while large men with guns tackle their parents to the ground. Maybe that ride at Six Flags is in the kids section of the park? But at the end of the day, who am I really going to trust? My own gut or Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino?

(cut to press conference video)
Greg Bovino: Here in the US Border Patrol, I will say unequivocally that we are experts in dealing with children. Let me say that again. Experts in dealing with children. Not because we want to be, but because we have to be.

(cut to studio)
BTC: That's right. They have to be. And it's that level of expertise that's led to agents detaining and sending a 2-year-old girl and her father to Texas despite a court order to release the toddler. Because experts.

Frankly, with all of Bovino's expertise with children, I'm not surprised he's not running his own daycare. I mean, he's certainly skilled in the art of bringing calm to the chaotic situation.

(cut to video)
NBC News Reporter: One of the latest clashes involving one of the most prominent figures in the Trump administration's immigration crackdown. That is Border Patrol commander right there, Gregory Bovino, throwing a canister into an angry crowd of protesters yesterday after warning those protesters multiple times that it was gas. Now, DHS says this all started because officers, including Bovino, were going gas station to gas station in the area, trying to use a bathroom, that they kept getting turned away, the agency said, and that a group of protesters, in their words, started to stalk them.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Wait, you're telling me that a gas station took issue with some masked armed men wanting to use their facilities? I can't imagine why. And just so I'm keeping my numbers straight, DHS takes no issue with Kristi Noem spending $172 million on a pair of private jets, but won't spring for a room at the Minneapolis Holiday Inn so some ICE agents can take a dump? Got it.

But what's so horrifying about the situation in Minnesota and the children being apprehended is that it's not new. It is just the latest incident in a trend.

(cut to video)
Fox Local Reporter: District officials say Liam is one of four children from Columbia Heights who've been taken by ICE over the last few weeks. And witnesses who were there dispute DHS's version of events, saying there were plenty of adults around who could have taken care of Liam instead of taking him to a detention center.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Gosh, you know, I want to trust the words of our government, but lately it just feels like, oh, I don't know there's a reason to be just a little skeptical.

(cut to video)
Caitlin Collins: The Department of Homeland Security shared the images of all the protesters who were arrested and then the White House account though shared one that stood out. That's because it's a fake version of one of those photos. You can look at them side by side here. The White House implicitly confirmed to CNN that it did in fact alter this photo and knowingly posted it because officials directed us when we asked about the tweet to another post from a spokesperson that says, "Enforcement of the law will continue. The memes will continue. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

(cut to studio)
BTC: Yeah. So, uh, this is not a meme. Not sure how to tell the White House this, but just because a black person is crying does not make it a meme. The administration willfully altered Nekima Levy Armstrong's photo, not just by adding tears, but also her skin appears to have been darkened. It is the epitome of depravity. And guess what? Without hardworking journalists, the ones this administration loves to denigrate, the public wouldn't know that what they're looking at is racist propaganda.

Donald Trump and his administration are constantly asking the American people to trust them on a whole host of issues. But the question everyone keeps coming back to is why should we? In what world should we trust an administration when they are doctoring arrest photos? Why on earth should we put our faith in elected officials when they're asking us to deny what we're seeing with our own eyes? First with the murder of Renee Good and now with the detention of a 5-year-old kid. Donald Trump himself wants us to trust him that the people he's targeting are the “worst of the worst.”

(cut to video)
Reporter: What evidence do you have that these are hardened criminals coming to the United States?

Trump: Oh, please, please don't be a baby. Okay, take a look. These are hardened criminals. These are tough, tough people.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Damn straight. Try getting this criminal to put away his iPad. Why should we trust them when they don't trust us to know what bullshit looks like? Maybe it's just me, but I've never met trustworthy people who have to lie this much. They lie about elections being rigged. They lie about the insurrection. They lie about the price of gas. They lie about crime statistics. They lie about the Epstein files. They lie about the cost and location of a ballroom. They lie about how much money they're saving the American people. And they do it by a factor of billions. My god, the people on Traitors don't lie this much. And that's literally the whole point of the game.

But speaking of money, it's worth remembering that we are paying for all of this ICE enforcement. The Big Beautiful Bill passed by Republicans quadrupled ICE's budget. And to pay for it, they kick 17 million Americans off of their Medicaid plans. So I ask any Trump supporters watching, is getting this guy off the streets worth not having healthcare? Sorry, I guess I shouldn't even dare ask the question.

(cut to video)
Trump: Please don't be a baby.

(cut to studio)
BTC: You're right. Wouldn't want to get arrested. {hands held up in surrender pose}
