Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Noem and Trump not wanting to use his catchphrase.

After events in Minneapolis and elsewhere, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem is facing heavy backlash and serious questions about her future up on Capitol Hill. But so far, Trump is standing by her and that seems strange. Trump's entire brand for years surrounded the catchphrase of “you're fired.” But apparently, sometime during his first term, he came to believe that every time he replaced someone, it encouraged the media and his political opponents to go after other members of his administration.

So, the rumor is that he adopted what was called a no scalps policy where he would reassign or promote people to other positions but not fire them. That being said, inside Trump's inner circle, Tom Homan being brought in to oversee operations in Minneapolis is a huge warning sign for Noem's continued position. The problem is that there aren't a lot of places to promote or transfer a cabinet member to. There's already a belief that Corey Lewandowski, who is in theory a temporary senior adviser, is already running a lot of the department.

Beyond that, there's already a significant push on Capitol Hill. Obviously, Democrats are lining up to try to push her out. But what should be a worrying sign for Trump is that Republicans are warming to the idea of showing her the door, too. For most, it's damage control. If they can change leadership, they can pretend the issue is solved. But some have actual issues with her running the department.

Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska didn't say she'd support impeachment, but she said, "I would not support her again, and I think it probably is time for her to step down."

Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina didn't mince words and said, "She should be out of a job."

Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, who is a Democrat who leans to the Trumpian side of things at times, made it pretty clear that he wasn't going to provide dissent within the Democratic party when he described Noem as “inept and absolutely incompetent.”

Some Democrats don't want her gone, but it's based in the fear that her replacement would be even worse. Senator Gary Peters of Michigan indicated the real goal should be to curtail the agency rather than give it a new leader. "If she goes, we're going to get just another bad apple. So, we have to fix DHS."

My guess is that we're going to see a lot of posturing about her impeachment and maybe even an attempt to do so. But right now, the vote count math says the votes aren't there. It would take a lot more Republicans to cross over. So, it'll probably be used as leverage to try to reform DHS, unless the backlash from the pro-2A Republicans continues to grow. We'll see how things continue to play out this week.
