Let's talk about the GOP being glad Trump failed to indict Senators Kelly, Slotkin, and others.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about the GOP being glad Trump failed to indict Senators Kelly, Slotkin, and others.

Late last year, a group of former military and intelligence professionals put out a video reminding US service members of their duty to disobey unlawful orders. The video was pretty similar to standard military training on the subject. Trump said those in the video “should be arrested and put on trial.” DOJ tried to do just that. The evidence was presented and the grand jury refused to return an indictment.

Separately, a federal judge ruled that no, they couldn't go after Kelly's retirement and rank.

Republicans lined up to publicly celebrate Trump's failure. All the quotes I'm going to read are from Republican senators.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley of Iowa said, "I think that our law enforcement people ought to be spending their time on making our community safe and going after real lawbreakers."

Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina said, "Political lawfare waged by either side undermines America's criminal justice system, which is the gold standard of the world. Thankfully, in this instance, a jury saw the attempted indictments for what they really were.”

Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Roger Wicker of Mississippi said, "I think the grand jury made the right decision."

Senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota said “the system worked the way it's supposed to.”

Senator Murkowski of Alaska said, "I'm glad that the grand jury came back and rejected indictments, but I think it is a very disturbing direction that the administration has taken in basically trying to make criminals out of sitting lawmakers who effectively pointed out what the Uniform Military Code of Justice says."

Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota said, "It looks like the grand jury came to their conclusion. I trust our judicial system. If that's the conclusion they arrived at, I think that pretty much lays things to rest as far as I'm concerned."

The interesting thing about this isn't that the Republican senators felt this way. The video really could have been a training video on the duty to disobey, which is something that is so ingrained in military culture that it's in the oath. The interesting part is that they were willing to say all of this publicly and immediately after the news.

Trump and his secretary of defense really went all-in on this one. When posting about the video, Trump said, "It's called seditious behavior at the highest level. Each one of these traitors to our country should be arrested and put on trial. Their words cannot be allowed to stand. We won't have a country anymore. An example must be set."

Expressing relief in public that Trump failed again is new for the Republican party. And on this one, there's only one real explanation. Quack quack, says the lame duck.

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
