Barack Obama breaks silence on Trump's ape video, Bad Bunny, and 2028 election - Brian Tyler Cohen and Barack Obama

Barack Obama talks Bad Bunny, Trump's ape video, and the 2028 election

====================

Here are the key points from President Obama's interview:

• Defending democracy requires citizen action - Obama emphasizes that restoring democratic norms and decency will come from activated citizens organizing and protesting, citing the Minneapolis community response to ICE operations as an example of effective grassroots mobilization.

• Democrats need strategic reform, not just tradition - He argues Democrats should eliminate structural barriers like the Senate filibuster that prevent majority rule, while maintaining integrity and not simply copying Republican tactics of disregarding rules.

• Unity over division within the party - Obama stresses that Democratic disagreements are mostly tactical, not about core values, and urges the party to avoid nationalizing every issue while allowing different approaches to work in different regions.

• Balancing idealism with political reality - He advocates maintaining moral principles while crafting messages and policies that can build working majorities, noting that voters won't agree 100% on everything and Democrats need to be practical to win elections.

• Recapturing joy and community in politics - Obama believes Democrats lost cultural appeal by sounding like "scolds" with excessive virtue signaling, and need to return to creating welcoming, fun campaigns that empower young people and build genuine community.

• Investing in next-generation leaders - His presidential center opening in June focuses on training and empowering young activists, organizers, and leaders rather than traditional political engagement, believing they will drive the change needed for this moment.

I question his comment regarding what rights non citizens at different levels of the immigration process have. I think most of us just ask that the Constitution be upheld because as we chip away at that, the rights of every citizen are jeopardized. Letting the Constitution be dissolved from the inside out helps none of us. Not slamming President Obama just questioning his stance of going along to get along on the issue of immigration. Females here are poised to lose the right to vote. We have felt it for years. Someday may be tomorrow. The Constitution must continue to stand the test of time to protect all rights. These rights are not ours to give away!
