Let's talk about Trump suggesting regime change in Cuba.... - Belle of the Ranch
Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump suggesting regime change in Cuba.
As Trump struggles to articulate a real plan or strategy, or even reason for that matter, for his orders in Iran that have led to strikes all over the region and destabilized world markets he's decided that maybe he should start yet another major issue for future Americans to deal with.
He's implied or outright said on a couple of occasions that he wants to engage in regime change in Cuba. Most recently, he said, "We're also looking forward to the great change that will soon be coming to Cuba. Cuba is at the end of the line. They're very much at the end of the line. They have no money. They have no oil. They have a bad philosophy. They have a bad regime that's been bad for a long time. He also promised to take care of Cuba.
Okay. So, if they have no oil, no money, no strategic value, and so on, why exactly is this a national priority? A bad regime that's been bad for a long time. So, some historical beef. This seems a lot like when George W. Bush convinced himself that everything was going swimmingly in Afghanistan and decided to start a second war before he finished his first one.
Maybe people who are backing all of these regime change operations need to remember that the US doesn't actually have a good track record with them. The regime he's currently trying to oust in Iran came to power after the last time the US and the UK decided it would realign the country.
The government in Cuba is the one that emerged after decades of US interventions to include US military rule and the US deciding to adjust arm sales to the country in 1958. When the US cut off arm sales to the government at the urging of the incoming president, Castro's coming to power was pretty much assured. That was unintentional, which shows exactly how the law of unintended consequences plays out.
From Libya to Albania to Haiti, the US history with regime change operations is littered with stunning failures and massive blowback. We all knew that when Republicans in Congress refused to reel Trump's Iranian war in that he would become more emboldened and more willing to put his whims into action.
Trump's actions across the world are creating decades of unintended consequences. What's important to remember is that the list of failed regime change operations or those that came back and hit us later with massive unforeseen consequences were planned and executed by some of the best and brightest when it comes to intelligence operations and they still had massive issues.
It's unlikely that a team that seems to have been primarily chosen based on how they look on camera and how willing they are to entertain an old man's whims will do better. He's planting the seeds for wars that children born today will be encouraged to enlist for and fight 20 years from now.
Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
