Let's talk about France trying to clean up Trump's mess.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about France trying to clean up Trump's mess.

While Trump flails about trying to stop gas prices from rising even faster than they already are. As he drops sanctions on adversarial nations. as he looks at letting Iran sell oil for more and fund their war machine. As he tries to pass off non-military, non-committal statements of support as some kind of coalition to reopen the Strait as he lashes out at NATO. Something else is happening in the background.

French President Macron is working to open the Strait of Hormuz by acting at the United Nations level. I feel like somebody recently said Trump was begging the wrong organization when he kept babbling about NATO obligations that don't actually exist anywhere except in the mind of a president who obviously never read the treaty.

Macron has said he already reached out and explained “to the UN Secretary General this afternoon that France intends to sound out its main partners and in particular the members of the Security Council on whether it would be appropriate to establish a UN framework for what we want to do in the Strait of Hormuz.”

Macron has put in some quiet diplomatic work, reaching out to major players in the world behind the scenes, not via social media post to see if something can be done to untangle Trump's mess. He seems hopeful and has indicated they'll be testing it out over the coming days, but he's also cautious about what he's saying in public, saying, "We have begun an exploratory process, and we will see in the coming days if it has a chance of succeeding.”

The likely idea would be to use the UN Security Council framework to establish a force to open the Strait to get products into the Gulf and oil out. This force would probably only move in if Trump agreed to stop firing and escalating the conflict.

If Macron can actually get enough countries behind it, particularly those in the global south who need to see the UN succeed, it might not only work, but it might give Trump exactly what he needs to walk away before this continues to snowball.

Right now, Trump is starting to realize that his advisors are not going to be recorded in history as brilliant and that he doesn't currently have a way out that will allow him to keep his ego intact. That really seems like the first condition for any plan to break off the conflict. He has to look good. And until that situation arises, well, American forces can keep getting shot at. It's no skin off his nose.

Macron might be able to hand him that on a silver platter. If the UN says they'll open the Strait, but the US has to back down. Well, Trump gets to come back and say he would have won if only the UN didn't get in his way. It plays to the rhetoric that he's already using.

It's amazing how all the international organizations Trump has said were worthless end up being the ones he desperately needs every time he discovers yet another way he was wrong. The fun part. If Macron pulls this off, guess who's going to be put up for a Peace Prize and not one handed out by the soccer people?

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.

My bet is Jared Kushner's father (Charles), the Ambassador to France, was leaned on by TSF to keep calling Macron until HE did something.
