Let's talk about Trump's billionaire ballroom being balked at by the court.... - Belle of the Ranch

Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about Trump's billionaire ballroom being balked at by the court.

District Judge Richard Leon granted a request for a preliminary injunction filed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and ordered construction on Trump's pet project to stop. The Bush-appointed judge wrote, “I have concluded that the National Trust is likely to succeed on the merits because no statute comes close to giving the president the authority he claims to have.”

So, construction that isn't necessary to ensure the safety and security of the White House is blocked until this plays out in court.

However, I got a message instructing me that I should be sure to include something if I covered this. “Hey, when you gloat about the temporary order blocking Trump from building the ballroom other presidents have wanted, but he was willing to do, make sure you tell them that the judge is wrong because Trump is doing this with donated money, not tax money. The judge can't tell him what to do with that money.”

Sure, Jan.

I'm going to start a GoFundMe to paint the Washington Monument a giant rainbow and pay to put rainbow flags on top of every federal building. No judge can stop me because I'm using private money. Do you see how silly that sounds?

I can't do that because I don't own the property. Neither does Trump. We own it. You and I. And under our system, our elected officials in DC determine what happens to it. Not some temporary occupant of the building. Trump is not the boss. Congress makes the laws. The judges interpret the laws. The president carries out the laws.

The president is supposed to be the errand boy for Congress. But because so many mediocre people in this country need to view one person as their ruler, that aspect of the Constitution has been lost over the years. It's one of the most important parts really. It's the thing that is supposed to stop the country falling to the whims of one man.

The judge who issued the order blocking Trump's actions also wrote, "The president of the United States is the steward of the White House for future generations of first families. He is not, however, the owner. Unless and until Congress blesses this project through statutory authorization, construction has to stop."

It's right there in black and white. Read the order, not memes about it, and you'll have a better understanding of it.

He went on to write, "This clearly is not how Congress and former presidents have managed the White House for centuries, and this court will not be the first to hold that Congress has ceded its powers in such a significant fashion."

DOJ filed an appeal within hours. So, we'll hear about this again.

Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
