Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about the automatic draft registration and the funny part.

Okay. So, starting in December, Selective Service registration will be automatic. Men ages 18 to 26 were already required to register for Selective Service in case the government wants to send the youth off to some foreign land and the reasoning is so shaky, they can't get volunteers. Now, because of the National Defense Authorization Act, which President Donald Trump signed into law in December, there will be automatic registration for males in the US. Yes, the man who famously obtained multiple deferments to avoid military service signed a law furthering a draft for the commoners.

I know a lot of media is saying that it will only apply to US citizens, but that doesn't appear to be the case. The Selective Service flyer says, "With only a few exceptions, the registration requirement applies to all male US citizens and male immigrants residing in the United States who are 18 through 25 years of age. This includes asylum seekers, green card holders, refugees, and undocumented men." Yep. The undocumented men Trump says are such a danger will be trained and armed if the US needs them. Now, there's a lot of people with very serious opinions that definitely need to be taken seriously about this massive change. But before you start falling down rabbit holes, maybe foxholes would be more appropriate for this and getting deep into a doom spiral.

It's worth noting that automatic registration already kind of existed in the overwhelming majority of states. In most states, the registration process is started when you get a driver's license or ID at the DMV.

The automatic registration itself isn't a sign of anything. Trump's ill-planned objectiveless wars might cause a draft, but the automatic registration doesn't mean they're about to start calling people up. It's really kind of a non-story and remember, your strongest ally and not being drafted is the Department of Defense. They literally don't want you. Ever since Vietnam, DoD has been anti-draft. Of course, now with somebody who was anti-draft when his number might come up in office, he might order a changed policy to show how tough he is. As long as someone else does the fighting.

Now for the funny part. Trump signed the bill to automate draft registration and trust that process enough to use it to defend the nation in an emergency, a war large enough to require a draft. He would use this system to identify people to train, arm, and send into combat. Yet, the same technology is apparently incapable of handling voter registration. The information in government databases is capable of doing everything except helping people participate in democracy.

Given the technology available, one might suggest that the systems are capable of automatically identifying people eligible to vote and mailing them their ballot. But I can assure you Trump would be opposed to such a move because the commoners having a voice isn't in his interest.
