Related: About this forumLet's talk about a follow up on the new draft rules.... - Belle of the Ranch
Well, howdy there Internet people. It's Belle again. So, today we're going to talk about a follow-up on the new draft rules.
Recently, we talked about how Trump signed a law about making registration for the draft automatic. I thought it was some pretty straightforward news, but I guess not. There were a few comments that were interesting and one of them in particular caught my attention
So, here we go. I was going to put this in the comments, but didn't want to deal with a bunch of femoids crying. You didn't say anything about how the draft only applies to men. I bet if they said women could be forced to join the military, you'd be terrified out of your mind. Next time you talk about it, why don't you explain why only men can get drafted and be real honest about how you'd feel if you were going to be sent off to boot camp. You made fun of Trump for getting a deferment only because you don't think this is something you need to worry about, but the Selective Service Commission said women should be included in the next draft in 2020. I can't wait to see you drafted. Let's see if you say it's not a big deal then.
When I first read this, I have to admit the only thing I took away from it was that you think I look young enough to be drafted. I'm definitely not. Okay, let's go through your comments.
You said I didn't say anything about how the draft applies only to men. I specified men no less than four times. You wanted me to explain why only men get drafted. Okay, but you're not going to like the answer. It's called the patriarchy because of the rigidly defined gender roles that most times benefit men. Men get saddled with this. Given your use of femoid, I'd be willing to bet you support most gender roles.
If you look at countries with more equality among their citizens, you'll see they have gender neutral compulsory service. Norway, Sweden, and I think Denmark has it or will have it soon.
See, if you had sent me a message saying you don't think men should be drafted, I'd agree. I've said that in the past, but you didn't. You said you wanted women drafted. This is one of those what you say versus what women hear moments. What you say is that military service is scary, so you want women to have to go through it, too. What we hear is that military service is scary, and you want a woman to take your spot.
I know some people believe if they get women included in the draft, it'll make it go away faster, but you didn't say that. You said you can't wait to see me drafted. What women hear is you'd put us at risk to protect yourself. I didn't say it wasn't a big deal. I said it was kind of a non-story because automatic registration is already in place in most states.
You took issue with me making fun of Trump and said it's because I didn't think it would affect me. While I do think it's weird that you're mad at me and defending the man who did it to you, your read is false.
Until he signed a law supporting the draft and then didn't withhold the money for it, like he does for things he doesn't like, I would go out of my way to say I didn't have a problem with people avoiding service because I believe in an all volunteer military. I came to that belief because I didn't like having people under my command who didn't want to be there.
Be real honest about how you'd feel if you were going to be sent off to boot camp.
Well, the first time as enlisted, it was exciting and new. I couldn't wait. Then when I went back as an officer, it was kind of boring and annoying. I don't want anybody to be drafted, but until people start realizing they need to blame the decision makers instead of buying into division, it'll exist.
Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.
