But when he would do it he would say "oops, wrong planet".

Common for dementia. My relative was always screaming about the parking spaces. I was fine, but they thought it was too narrow, too close, not high enough. No basis in reality other than what they perceived in their brain.

He should spend a little time on some trails to get a better picture of the Canyon. It should be a once in a lifetime view.
