Related: About this forumRepublicans get bad news over assault of Senator - Another Day - Brian Tyler Cohen
the Trump administration respects all
forms of peaceful disscent which is why
they handcuffed a senator attempting to
ask a question this is just another day
today America witnessed Senator Alex
Padilla being forced to the ground and
handcuffed during a press briefing in
Los Angeles by Department of Homeland
Security Secretary Christy Gnome's staff
or to hear her tell it this man burst
into the room started lunging towards
the podium interrupting me and elevating
his voice and uh was stopped did not
identify himself and was removed from
the room huh didn't identify himself
look in Christ's defense that is serious
if only he had some foresight here and
did the bare minimum by announcing his
name i'm Senator Alex Padilla ah well I
can see the confusion here because aside
from him saying "I'm Senator Alex
Padilla," Gnome is totally right i mean
I'm sorry but how much more can someone
identify themselves than by saying their
own name out loud maybe for better
clarity Padilla should have had it
blasting out of a boom box you know so
horrific things like this don't happen
on the ground hands behind your back
hands behind your back if you feel my
hands go ahead and stand behind my back
all right cool other hand lay lay flat
lay flat other hand turn other hand
it truly is jarring to watch they needed
three men to arrest a sitting senator
for the apparent crime of trying to ask
a question i think we all know what
would have happened if he had a followup
while I assume Christy Nome has trained
her entire team to handcuff anyone with
a Latino sounding last name this type of
behavior from members of DHS is still
appalling if they're shoving members of
Congress to the floor and handcuffing
them with cameras everywhere it is
chilling to think what they're doing to
everyday people in this country when
they're not being recorded which is why
people are marching in the streets of LA
and cities across the country it's not
just to get their steps in it's to voice
their opposition to the authoritarian
tactics being used by this
administration but what most people
found offensive about this video was in
stark contrast to what Secretary Gnome
was disturbed by you know we're leaders
we're public servants and if he had
requested a meeting I would have loved
to have sat down and had a conversation
with him that coming into a press
conference like this as political
theater it's wrong and it does a
disservice to this country and the
people who live here the way that he
acted was completely inappropriate it
wasn't becoming a US senator or a public
official and look Christy Gnome is right
leaders and public officials should
always conduct themselves with
appropriate levels of respect and when
you're a star they let you do it you can
do anything whatever you want grab them
by the and decorum you know you're a
terrible reporter number one you you
don't have what it takes to be a
reporter you're not smart enough and
professionalism and now the poor guy you
got to see this guy i don't know what I
said uh I don't remember you know like
that but Christy Nome isn't just
offended by what happened today she's
also exhausted i just you know I I'm so
sick of the politics Martha this is
literally people's lives we have
criminal gangs and terrorists out on our
streets that we're trying to remove from
Los Angeles i mean people just need to
get over themselves coming into a press
conference like this as political
theater it's wrong and it does a
disservice to this country and the
people who live here that's right just
do the job the people elected you to do
instead of partaking in political
theater and look I kind of get why this
administration doesn't want anything to
do with theater when this is the welcome
they get there
[Applause]
[Music]
now in fairness they weren't saying boo
they were saying "Fuck you." But not
surprisingly today's incident quickly
made its way around Washington and while
Senator Padilla may have been restrained
others were unhinged representative
Lauren Boowbert sought to own Senator
Padilla by digging through his old
tweets reposting one that said "No one
is above the law sheriff you agree."
That's right Lauren got him padilla
should know that when he breaks the law
he can be held accountable too which
raises the question does Lauren Boowbert
think asking a question is breaking the
law because um it's not at all it may
have been a little disruptive but I
don't think the member of Congress who
was kicked out of a production of
Beetlejuice for trying to juice
someone's beetle is the one to weigh in
on disruptive behavior but surely surely
Mike Johnson is willing to speak out in
support of his own branch of
government's autonomy right what I saw
was agents asking him to uh quieten down
so that the you know the secretary could
continue her press conference he refused
to do so what were they supposed to do
well Mike um there's always the option
of not doing that let's remember that
not tackling a US senator is always a
good route to take i mean honestly
you're telling me that the one guy who's
able to control a chamber of 435 unruly
adults with one single gavl can't think
of any better way to restore order than
by handcuffing someone but Speaker
Johnson continued "A sitting member of
Congress should not act like that it is
beneath a member of Congress it is
beneath a US senator they're supposed to
lead by example and that is not a good
example we have to turn the temperature
down in this country and not escalate it
we have to turn the temperature down i
completely agree we need to turn down
the temperature unfortunately this guy
has control of our nation's thermostat
and we're going to be celebrating big on
Saturday we're going to have a lot of
And if there's any protester wants to
come out they will be met with very big
force by the way for those people that
want to protest they're going to be met
with very big force and I haven't even
heard about a protest but you know this
is uh people that hate our country but
they will be met with very heavy force
heavy force and he's not talking about
the type of heavy force a toilet seat
contends with every time Trump sits down
to pee it's this heavy force these are
crystal clear intimidation tactics by a
sitting president of the United States
being applauded by Republican members of
Congress and their sanctimonious stance
on what happened today just doesn't
track because if the Republican party
somehow thinks the rioters on January 6
who stormed the Capitol building with
batons and zip ties smashed windows
threatened the lives of members of
Congress and assaulted multiple police
officers deserve to be categorized as
peaceloving protesters who were more
than worthy of a presidential pardon
then my god Senator Alex Padilla should
be their mother Teresa the GOP wants
Americans to trust their judgment on how
these ICE raids are being handled around
the country but they can't even properly
describe an incident that everyone saw
with their own eyes on camera every
single thing that Republicans watch gets
put through their partisan filter
they're the only people on the planet
who would watch Back to the Future and
describe it as propaganda promoting
electric vehicles so look I get that
Republicans may not love a senator
showing a lack of decorum while asking
the question to a cabinet official but
if the Trump administration refuses to
stop conducting careless and aggressive
ICE raids subverting the Constitution
and ignoring the legislative branch's
constitutional authority then to quote
the speaker of the house what are we
supposed to do.
