What I Heard During a Town Hall in Germany - Beto O'Rourke
During my town hall meeting in Germany, Julia said that she loves America but can't live there right now. Why? “If I had to name a couple reasons why I feel like I can't go back, it would be affordable health care that I have here and affordable child care; thank you very much, Berlin!”
She added that she doesn’t talk to her friends in America about this because “I feel so bad that I enjoy these things and these privileges that should not be privileges.”
She’s right, they should just be human rights. We are the wealthiest, most powerful country not just on the planet today but in the history of the world. We do not lack for the resources to guarantee universal child care, affordable housing, world-class public schools, that everyone can see a doctor, that you only have to work one job, and other common sense things that will measurably improve the lives of our fellow Americans. We have just lacked for the political will to get it done.
We must win back power and then use it to deliver for the people. We’ve got to be the party that gets shit done. - 10/14/2025.
