Instead we give money to progressive nonprofits. Not a boycott but same outcome.

Buy what we want during the year, some of it is special stuff, so we don’t bother with Christmas or birthdays. We get enough, why buy a lot more during the holidays. I try to fix us a nice dinner and that’s it. No turkey this year, it’s going to be a roast. There are only two of us, and we’ll have enough leftovers.

We had a class in current events. My teacher required us to read several books on subjects like advertising, psychology, science, nothing too advanced, but I really learned a lot. One of the books was Vance Packard’s “The Hidden Persuaders”. It was about the world of advertising, it was an eye opener. I keep a pdf of it on my iPad. Even today it’s very applicable to the way consumers are persuaded by brands and politicians. I recommend reading it. I’ve applied it to the way I view politics, the way I spend money, a lot of things.
