An Expert Victim Advocate Discusses Dealing with Trauma, from the Workplace to Violent Crime - Glenn Kirschner
Victim support specialists and victim rights advocates are some of the unsung heroes of the criminal justice system, helping victims and witnesses deal with trauma.
For 15 years at the Department of Justice, Kathrine "Kate" Manning was one of the preeminent experts in the victim support and victims' rights arena. Kate took point on dealing with victims in so many cases, inducing the Pulse Nightclub mass shooting case and the Boston Marathon bombing.
Kate also trained federal prosecutors nationwide on issues involving the legal ins and outs of the Crime Victims' Rights Act, and on the all-important topic of trauma-informed communication.
After leaving the DOJ, Kate continued her work with those who experience trauma by authoring a remarkable book titled "The Empathetic Workplace" helping employees deal with workplace trauma and helping employers prepare for what seems inevitable these days, trauma in the workplace. - Glenn Kirschner - 11/23/2025.
