Biden Hails Infrastructure Win As 'Monumental Step Forward'

President Joe Biden on Saturday hailed Congress’ passage of his $1 trillion infrastructure package as a “monumental step forward for the nation” after fractious fellow Democrats resolved a months-long standoff in their ranks to finally seal the deal.

At this point, Wake was ranked 16th, four spots lower than any other undefeated Power 5 school. The Demon Deacons led the ACC's Atlantic Division, but few pundits thought they'd stay there for long. Then there were the advanced metrics. The algorithms were downright dismissive of Wake Forest. The way Clawson sees it, the whole system is too narrow-minded.

"The formulas out there, they always downgrade us," Clawson said. "I don't think it's fair to our players that what we do is discounted, because of some recruiting rankings that came out six years ago that locks them in a certain way. Once you're a three-star, you're always a three-star."

Wake's offensive coordinator, Warren Ruggiero, compared Clawson's approach to Steve Jobs': "You can't look at the competition and say you're going to do it better. You have to look at the competition and say you're going to do it differently."

In Clawson's early years, Wake's offensive approach was usually to chew up as much clock as possible in hopes of winning a low-scoring game, which they did often: 6-3 (in double overtime) against Virginia Tech in 2014, 3-0 vs. BC in 2014 and 7-3 vs. Tulane in 2016. But as the talent developed, Clawson and Ruggiero adopted a new approach, a sort of Frankenstein's monster version of the triple option that utilizes a delay at the mesh point between the QB and running back that nearly affords a fan enough time to get off the couch and grab a beer before Hartman decides whether to pull the ball or hand it off. The scheme has produced increasingly astounding results, including a 70-point outburst against Army in Week 8 that came despite the Deacons holding the ball for just over 17 minutes. College football is often described as a "copycat" sport, but Wake's offense is a singularity.

The Cleveland Browns are working with Odell Beckham Jr.'s representatives to negotiate an agreement on terms under which they would release the wide receiver, the team announced Friday.


The Browns are converting Beckham's base salary into signing bonus to lower his cap number in an attempt to save money, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Once the contract is finalized -- expected to be anytime in the next few days -- Beckham will be released. He can't be claimed on waivers until next week.

According to multiple sources, Cleveland coach Kevin Stefanski addressed the team before Wednesday's practice and informed players that Beckham would no longer be a Brown as the team prepares for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

In 1968, Tuck utilized Republican nominee Nixon's own campaign slogan against him; he hired a heavily pregnant black woman to wander around a Nixon rally in a predominantly white area, wearing a T-shirt that read, "Nixon's the One!"[12]

In a 1973 Time magazine article, Tuck stated, "There was an absent-minded professor who knew I was in politics and forgot the rest. He asked me to advance a Nixon visit." Tuck agreed and launched his first prank against Nixon. He rented a big auditorium, invited only a small number of people, and gave a long-winded speech to introduce the candidate.[6] When Nixon came on stage, Tuck asked him to speak about the International Monetary Fund. When the speech was over, Nixon asked Tuck his name and told him, "Dick Tuck, you've made your last advance."[7]

Tuck's most famous prank against Nixon is known as "the Chinatown Caper".[8] During his campaign for Governor of California in 1962, Nixon visited Chinatown in Los Angeles. At the campaign stop, a backdrop of children holding "welcome" signs in English and Chinese was set up. As Nixon spoke, an elder from the community whispered that one of the signs in Chinese said, "What about the Hughes loan?" The sign was a reference to an unsecured $205,000 loan that Howard Hughes had made to Nixon's brother, Donald. Nixon grabbed a sign and, on camera, ripped it up.[8] Later, Tuck learned, to his chagrin, that the Chinese characters actually spelled out "What about the huge loan?"[6][8]

After the first Kennedy–Nixon debate in 1960, Tuck hired an elderly woman who put on a Nixon button and embraced the candidate in front of TV cameras. She said, "Don't worry, son! He beat you last night, but you'll get him next time."[9]
