Bill Clinton tests positive for COVID

Source: The Hilll

Former President Clinton announced on Twitter Wednesday that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms.

Clinton tweeted that he is “doing fine overall” and is grateful to be fully vaccinated and boosted.

“I’m grateful to be vaccinated and boosted, which has kept my case mild, and I urge everyone to do the same, especially as we move into the winter months,” he said.

Former secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, the former president’s wife, tested positive for COVID-19 in March and experienced mild cold symptoms. She said at the time that her husband tested negative but would quarantine until the household is “fully in the clear.”

DeSantis-backed school boards begin ousting Florida educators

Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis put his weight behind dozens of conservative school board candidates across Florida during the midterms. Now they’re in office — and are purging some educational leaders who enforced Covid-19 mandates.

New board members in two GOP-leaning counties essentially sacked their school superintendents over the span of one week. The ousters were spurred by how the superintendents carried out local policies like efforts to support the rights of parents, an issue inflamed by schools imposing student mask mandates last fall in defiance of DeSantis.

And while not tied to the 2022 election, the school board in Broward County earlier this month fired its superintendent through an effort led by five members appointed by DeSantis. All combined, school boards with ties to DeSantis pushed out three superintendents in November alone — and each of them served over districts that implemented student mask mandates.

“We had a wave in school districts that spit in parents’ faces,” said state Rep. Randy Fine (R-Palm Bay), who earlier this year sought to punish schools with mask mandates. “And now the people who did that are gone.”

Fact Check: Did Twitter Scrap Its Covid-19 Misinformation Restrictions?

TRUE!

Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter has been surrounded by allegations that his changes to the platform will foster misinformation and misleading narratives across the popular social media site.

Musk, who has already taken actions to reinstate a number of controversial public figures whose accounts were previously suspended, has repeatedly referenced his desire to increase "free speech" on the platform.

Now, it appears that Twitter may have taken this one step further by removing some of its COVID-19 content policies that helped police misleading narratives during the pandemic.

Multiple tweets posted on November 29, 2022, claim that Twitter has removed its COVID-19 misinformation policy, a set of rules for posting Coronavirus-related content on the social media platform.

Left-Wing Voices Are Silenced on Twitter as Far-Right Trolls Advise Elon Musk

Elon Musk claims to be “fighting for free speech in America” but the social network’s new owner appears to be overseeing a purge of left-wing activists from the platform. Several prominent antifascist organizers and journalists have had their accounts suspended in the past week, after right-wing operatives appealed directly to Musk to ban them and far-right internet trolls flooded Twitter’s complaints system with false reports about terms of service violations.

As the Los Angeles City Councilmember Mike Bonin noted on Twitter, the suspended users include Chad Loder, an antifascist researcher whose open-source investigation of the U.S. Capitol riot led to the identification and arrest of a masked Proud Boy who attacked police officers. The account of video journalist Vishal Pratap Singh, who reports on far-right protests in Southern California, has also been suspended.

Among the other prominent accounts suspended were the Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club, an antifascist group that provides armed security for LGBTQ+ events in North Texas, and CrimethInc, an anarchist collective that has published and distributed anarchist and anti-authoritarian zines, books, posters, and podcasts since the mid-1990s.

All four accounts had been singled out for criticism by Andy Ngo, a far-right writer whose conspiratorial, error-riddled reporting on left-wing protests and social movements fuels the mass delusion that a handful of small antifascist groups are part of an imaginary shadow army called “antifa.” In a public exchange on Twitter on Friday, Musk invited Ngo to report “Antifa accounts” that should be suspended directly to him.

Russian Mob Boss Warns 'There Is a Change of Power' in the Country

Source: Newsweek

A Russian mob boss warned civilians of a "change of power" in the country, saying that convicts recruited by the Wagner Group, a Russian mercenary outfit, for Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine will eventually wreak havoc in society.

In a video appeal that circulated on social media this month, Grisha Moskovsky spoke out against Yevgeny Prigozhin, a Putin ally and founder of the Wagner Group, and Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, saying that they are creating two power groups. He appealed to Russians to be cautious.

"Now two gangs are forming in Russia. Two gangs, one gang is the Wagner's and the other gang is Kadyrov's. Now there is a change of power in Russia," he said. "Who is a scoundrel and who will come to power."

Moskovsky pointed to the fact that the Wagner Group has been recruiting large numbers of prisoners for Putin's war in Ukraine. The mercenary unit has been recruiting in penal colonies in far-flung regions of Russia, according to Olga Romanova, head of the prisoner advocacy group Russia Behind Bars. /

Attorneys for AL death row inmate claim he wasn't told about stay of execution while strapped to gur

Attorneys for AL death row inmate claim he wasn’t told about stay of execution while strapped to gurney.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Attorneys for an Alabama death row inmate whose execution was called off earlier this month now claim the execution process continued despite a stay from the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

In newly filed court documents, attorneys for Kenneth Smith say, despite a stay, Smith was strapped to a gurney and not told a federal court had stayed his execution. His attorneys said Smith was strapped to that gurney in the execution chamber for approximately four hours.

A little after 10 p.m., once that stay was lifted by the U.S. Supreme Court, court documents say Smith’s arms and hands were jabbed repeatedly with needles “well past the point at which the executioners should have known that it was not reasonably possible to access a vein”.

Shortly thereafter, Smith’s attorneys say he was injected with an unknown substance believed to be a sedative or anesthetic which is something he objected to and was aware that the state had represented that it does not deliver intramuscular injections as part of the execution process and had been ordered not to use “intramuscular sedation” during his execution.

FDA approves most expensive drug yet at $3.5 million per dose

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP)- The FDA has just approved the most expensive drug on the market to date. The drug, known as Hemgenix, costs $3.5 million per dose and is administered to patients with the rare disorder Hemophilia B.

Hemophilia B is the rarer form of the blood clotting disorder resulting from insufficient amounts of a protein called Protein IX. Most patients with hemophilia B are men and about 1 in every 40,000 people has the disorder. Women are often carriers, displaying no symptoms but passing the disorder on to their children.

Rise in child poisonings linked to cough medicine, FDA warns
Small cuts or bruises can be life-threatening, and many people need treatments once or more a week to prevent serious bleeding. Left untreated, the condition can cause bleeding that seeps into joints and internal organs, including the brain.

Currently, patients receive frequent, expensive IVs of a protein that helps blood clot and prevent bleeding. Hemgenix is a gene therapy drug that is given in one dose via IV infusion.

Missouri judge denies request from 19-year-old to witness her father's execution

Kevin Johnson was sentenced to death for the 2005 killing of a Kirkwood, MO police officer. Johnson was 19 at the time he committed the crime, the same age his daughter, Khorry Ramey, is now.

"I'm heartbroken that I won't be able to be with my dad in his last moments," Ramey told NBC News. She said that her father "has worked very hard to rehabilitate himself in prison. I pray that [Gov. Mike] Parson will give my dad clemency."

/snip

The plaintiffs argue that prohibiting Ramey from attending the execution is unconstitutional and "illustrates the irrationality" of sentencing someone to death prior to their 21st birthday but preventing those under 21 from attending executions.

"I am my dad's closest living relative and he is mine, other than my baby son," Ramey told the outlet. "If my dad were dying in the hospital, I would stick by his side and hold his hand, praying until his death."
