Native women face disproportionately high rates of violence, murder, and sexual assault - and the epidemic of violence they face has been largely ignored. In a proclamation, The Biden Administration announced that his budget earmarks $800 million in funding to support the Violence Against Women Act, including a new grant program that will work to address the missing or murdered Indigenous persons crisis.

A Texas man is taking legal action to investigate his ex-partner’s legal, out-of-state abortion - he and his lawyer have suggested they may try to sue for wrongful death and may pursue charges for anyone involved in “aiding or abetting” his ex’s abortion. This case illustrates the treacherous landscape of Post-Roe America for both pregnant people and healthcare providers who fear legal repercussions, especially in the South.
“We have been told that to provide any resources or even information about where legal abortion clinics are, is considered a criminal conspiracy and that we could all be under arrest for that,” Robin Marty, the executive director for the West Alabama Women’s Center explained. Virginia is now the only destination in the Southeast region for abortions after 12 weeks. That’s because abortion is now banned after 6 weeks in Florida. Before Florida’s strict ban, it was a refuge for abortion access in the South, even despite its prior 15-week ban. Millions of women in the South will now need to travel to Virginia for reproductive care.
