The already-nationalized special election for a congressional seat in northeast Ohio is getting even more divisive.
The political arm of the Congressional Black Caucus is wading into the race, tapping Shontel Brown, the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party chair, over Nina Turner, a progressive former state senator. Both women are Black.
It’s the latest notable group to take sides in the Aug. 3 primary, which has quickly turned into a proxy war for feuding factions of the Democratic Party.
Brown’s coalition includes Hillary Clinton, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn and pro-Israel forces. The former incumbent, Marcia Fudge, now President Joe Biden’s Housing secretary, is staying neutral — but her mother has endorsed Brown.

In a Thursday court filing, a lawyer for Jones asked a Connecticut court to begin the process of issuing a subpoena to obtain records and testimony from the former secretary of state and Democratic presidential nominee, baselessly arguing that it was she who organized the multiple families now suing Jones for defamation related to the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting.
“The defendants in this case believe that this suit was filed six years after the
shootings at Sandy Hook as part of a vendetta inspired, orchestrated and directed in whole or in part by Hillary Clinton as part of a vendetta to silence Alex Jones after Ms. Clinton lost the presidential race to Donald J. Trump,” the court filing reads. “The litigation is brought and pursued in bad faith as part of a partisan effort to silence Mr. Jones for reasons wholly independent of the merits of the plaintiffs’ claims.

“A lot of people will make fun of this, but it’s just good lawyering,” Bankston joked to HuffPost. “Personally, I have a subpoena lined up for the estate of Elvis Presley and a document request relating to the Bermuda Triangle.”
“Obviously I’m not being serious,” he added. “Nothing about this deserves to be taken seriously.”

President Biden announced on Friday that Lindsay, who was the first person in the nation to receive a COVID-19 vaccine after the FDA authorized its use in December, will have her hospital scrubs, vaccination card and the badge she wore on the day she received her first dose displayed at the COVID-19 exhibit in the Smithsonian Museum of American History.
She was also awarded the "Outstanding American by Choice" award from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which recognizes naturalized citizens who have made "significant contributions to our country," Mr. Biden said, adding that she "represented the very best of us all."
