LetMyPeopleVote's JournalTexas Democrats are preparing to deal with election disruptions
I have been volunteering on voter protection effort for a very long time. I have been an election judge and have runned the voter protection war room. I have trained 100s of poll watchers for the 2012 and 2016 elections. I just took the course on elcection law for election workers and they covered a topic that I had never seen before. There is a handout that provides the law on what constitutes an unlawful militia This is from the course-Link to information on unlawful militias in Texas: https://www.law.georgetown.edu/icap/wp-content/uploads/sites/32/2020/09/Texas.pdf?
In Texas poll watchers are very limited in Texas and cannot talk to voters. Poll watchers have to be appointed by a party or a candidate and there are severe limitations on what a poll watcher can do. I had to deal with True the Vote poll watchers in 2012 and we ended up having no real issues. The presiding election judge can eject a poll watcher who violates the rules including trying to talk to a voter.
This course deals with some of the proposed tactics that may be used by trump supporters. The presiding election judge has the power to arrest persons who violate the election or penal code at a polling location which includes the area outside a polling location. Having firearms within a set distrance of a voting location can be stopped if the intent is to intimidate voters. Under Texas law, a riot can be 7 people who attempt to disrupt voting and it is illegal to obstruct access to polling location. We have never covered this topics in past election law seminars.
I am glad that we are preparing to deal with some of the tactics that are being discussed.

Texas Guv Sued For Move To Severely Limit Mail Ballot Drop-Off Locations
Chad Dunn has filed a lawsuit on this act of voter suppression
https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/abbott-sued-ballot-drop-off-locations
The impact of this eleventh-hour decisions is momentous, targets Texas most vulnerable votersolder voters, and voters with disabilitiesand results in wild variations in access to absentee voting drop-off locations depending on the county a voter resides in, the lawsuit said. It also results in predictable disproportionate impacts on minority communities that already hit hardest by the COVID-19 crisis.
County election officials from Harris County, Travis County, Fort Bend County and El Paso County are also named as defendants in the suit, as is Texas Secretary of State Ruth Hughs.
The lawsuit notes that counties like Travis and Harris which have populations larger than some U.S. states and also sprawling geographies had planned to offer several locations for absentee voters to drop off their ballots.

Yesterday, Joe Biden won the first presidential debate of the General election! At the debate, Joe Biden exhibited statesmanlike leadership and spoke to the American people about his plan to heal the nation and build our country back better.
Today, Jill and Joe Biden will embark on a Build Back Better Express train tour to travel across Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. Vice President Biden will highlight how he will build our economy back better for working families, not the super wealthy and corporations.
Doug Emhoff will virtually travel to New Hampshire, where he will participate in virtual tours of Revision Energy, a solar company serving New England, and Brown & Company, a graphic design company. After, Mr. Emhoff will launch a phone bank with Granite Staters. With early voting underway in New Hampshire, this event will focus on the importance of getting registered and early voting.
Biden for President will host Racism as a Religious Issue. Senator Chris Coons, Rev. Jim Wallis, Rev. Dr. Cynthia Hale, Dr. Nichole Flores, actor Gaius Charles and others will join in an important conversation about what we believe is the real religious issue of the election: systemic racism. The discussion will also highlight the contrast between the common good values of the Biden-Harris agenda, which deeply aligns with the values of people of faith, and the agenda of the current administration, which is based in divisiveness and fear.
In a new Civiqs poll, Joe Biden leads Donald Trump 50-47 in the historically red state of Georgia.
