Fla-Voting restoration amendment has 900,000 signatures

I am active with the ACLU's Let People Vote program. One of the projects for this project is to get enough signatures to put a restoration of voing rights for ex-felons on the ballot in Florida. Florida has one of the most restrictive laws on voting rights.

This news made me smile http://floridapolitics.com/archives/250580-voting-restoration-amendment

The main backer of a proposed constitutional amendment that would automatically restore some felons’ voting rights after they complete their sentences told Florida Politics his effort now has collected over 900,000 signatures.

“Knowing that we set the goal of collecting 1 million, the fact that we are less than 100,000 petitions away from our goal is an amazing attestation to the growing energy, excitement, and support around second chances,” said Desmond Meade, chair of Floridians for Fair Democracy and president of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, in a Tuesday email.

The Florida Division of Elections website showed as of the end of Tuesday that the citizen ballot initiative, known as “The Voting Restoration Amendment,” has 442,969 verified signatures.

Initiatives need 766,200 valid signatures for ballot placement. Signatures must be spread across Florida’s 27 congressional districts, with the total number due pegged to voter turnout in the most recent presidential election.

The combination of refugees from Puerto Rico and the restoration of the right of ex-felons to vote will make Florida blue for 2020

O'Keefe tried to scam the Washington Post with bogus Roy Moore story

O'Keefe is pure scum https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/a-woman-approached-the-post-with-dramatic--and-false--tale-about-roy-moore-sje-appears-to-be-part-of-undercover-sting-operation/2017/11/27/0c2e335a-cfb6-11e7-9d3a-bcbe2af58c3a_story.html?pushid=5a1c860fb0a05c1d0000005d&tidr=notifi_push_breaking-news&utm_term=.0db517c6fa22

In a series of interviews over two weeks, the woman shared a dramatic story about an alleged sexual relationship with Moore in 1992 that led to an abortion when she was 15. During the interviews, she repeatedly pressed Post reporters to give their opinions on the effects that her claims could have on Moore’s candidacy if she went public.

The Post did not publish an article based on her unsubstantiated account. When Post reporters confronted her with inconsistencies in her story and an Internet posting that raised doubts about her motivations, she insisted that she was not working with any organization that targets journalists.

But on Monday morning, Post reporters saw her walking into the New York offices of Project Veritas, an organization that targets the mainstream news media and left-leaning groups. The organization sets up undercover “stings” that involve using false cover stories and covert video recordings meant to expose what the group says is media bias.

James O’Keefe, the founder of Project Veritas who was convicted of a misdemeanor in 2010 for using a fake identity to enter a federal building during a previous sting, declined to answer questions about the woman outside the Project Veritas office, a storefront in Mamaroneck, N.Y., on Monday morning shortly after the woman walked inside.

This Alex Jones parody is so good, Infowars is having a fit over it

This Alex Jones parody is really funny https://www.salon.com/2017/11/21/lil-alex-jones-video/

Honestly, it's pretty easy to parody Alex Jones. The gravel-voiced, vein-popping, conspiracy-theorist leader of his own mini media empire and health-supplement sales platform is so impossibly over the top that he lends himself to it. So hyperbolically buffoonish is the host that you sometimes have wonder if his whole public presence isn't some kind of Andy Kaufmanesque art project critiquing modern broadcasting. Indeed, it may be.

The ease to which Jones lends himself to satire, however, doesn't make the web series "Lil' Alex Jones" from Cafe any less enjoyable. Starring a particularly feisty child, the mini-show zeroes in on Jones' outsized petulance which, let's face it, is only significantly different from that of a pre-teen in its subject matter.

Here, Lil' Alex Jones confronts the evils of Flintstones Chewable Vitamins, censorship at the book fair, his stepdad, Mark, and whatever shadowy cabal of illuminati is secretly pouring pee into his bedsheets. The tone is perfect, as is Lil' Alex Jones' constant hawking of snake-oil supplements, one of which is guaranteed to bring on puberty in children as young as nine.

Federal judge says Trump administration cant stop funding sex-reassignment surgery for military mem

Source: Washington Post

A second federal judge has halted the Trump administration’s proposed transgender military ban finding that active-duty service members are “already suffering harmful consequences” because of the president’s policy.

The ruling Tuesday from U.S. District Judge Marvin J. Garbis in the Maryland case comes just weeks after another judge in Washington blocked the administration’s proposal that would have stopped military recruitment of transgender men and women and possibly forced the dismissal of current service members starting in March.

The preliminary injunction issued by the judge in Baltimore on Tuesday goes further than the earlier ruling by also preventing the administration from denying funding for certain medical care.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton draws first Democratic challenger for 2018

A Susman Godfrey partner is running against Ken Paxton. https://www.texastribune.org/2017/11/08/paxton-draws-first-democratic-challenger-2018/

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is getting his first Democratic opponent for re-election.

Attorney Justin Nelson is entering the race to be the state's top lawyer with just over a month until the candidate filing deadline for the 2018 primaries.

"Justice is for all. Nobody is above the law," Nelson said in a news release. "Texans can do better than our indicted Attorney General who is charged with criminal fraud."

Susman is one of the top firms in the state for litigation. I do not know Justin (he is in Susman's Ausint office) but that firm is a strong firm
