In 2016, Hillary Clinton received just 28 percent of Ector’s vote. In 2018, Beto O’Rourke did slightly better, earning just over 30 percent. Horick’s goal this year is for Democratic statewide candidates to receive 35 percent of the vote in the county. She and other local organizers largely hope to do this by increasing turnout in Hispanic communities, as well as by convincing O’Rourke voters who backed President Donald Trump in 2016 to vote Democratic again. On the map on the wall, precincts colored in blue marked Hispanic neighborhoods estimated to be heavily Democratic. While only 35 percent of people voted in those precincts in 2018, Horick is hoping to push that number closer to 50 this cycle. Red stripes marked areas where voters cast ballots for Trump, in 2016, and then Beto O’Rourke.
That Saturday, wearing masks and walking at distance with others, Horick had kicked off in-person canvassing, leaving door hangers in blue neighborhoods. By the end of the weekend in Odessa, Horick and other volunteers would hand out over 2,000 voter registration cards. Meanwhile, around West Texas, other Democratic county chairs were beginning to organize in-person as well—some independently and others in coordination with the state party, which, unlike in previous election cycles, is finally running ads in rural areas and sending more organizers there as well. For many in rural Texas, it’s the first time they’ve seen this level of coordination run through the state party between local, state, and national races. That week, Logan and Horick had driven to Austin to pick up door hangers from the party. They would have liked to get them earlier and without the drive, they told me, but were happy to have the supply in the first place.

• Yesterday, in Florida, the contrast between Joe Biden’s socially distanced drive-in rallies and President Trump’s reckless super spreader event was on full display as COVID cases surge across the country just five days to Election Day. In Broward and Tampa, Joe Biden thanked supporters for wearing masks and socially distancing while in Tampa, Trump’s maskless crowd stood shoulder-to-shoulder chanting “lock him up” when Trump attacked Biden. • Joe Biden will travel to Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin to discuss bringing Americans together to address the crises facing the country and winning the battle for the soul of the nation. Vice President Biden will deliver remarks at a drive-in event in Des Moines, Iowa followed by a drive-in event in St. Paul, Minnesota and ending the day at an event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. • Kamala Harris will travel to Fort Worth, McAllen, and Houston, Texas. In the afternoon, Senator Harris will participate in a voter mobilization event in Fort Worth. Later, Senator Harris will participate in an event with former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro and former Congressman Beto O’Rourke in McAllen. In the evening, Senator Harris will participate in a voter mobilization event in Houston.
• Dr. Biden will travel to Pennsylvania to participate in an Educators Mobilization Rally with local educators and union members in the National Education Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) around the power of their vote.
• Doug Emhoff will join voter mobilization events in Las Vegas, Nevada for the last day of in-person early voting in the state. Emhoff will lead a Get Out the Early Vote drive-in car rally with Congresswoman Susie Lee. Then, he will kick off a canvass shift with Congresswoman Dina Titus to get out the vote with volunteers.
• Yesterday, The Christian Post published an op-ed by Vice President Joe Biden, detailing how his values, rooted in his personal faith, have guided his politics over the course of his career in public service.
• This week, Joe Biden penned an op-ed in Indian Country Today about his plan to follow through on our commitments to Native peoples – to ensure tribal sovereignty and self-governance, and fulfill our federal trust and treaty responsibilities to tribal nations.

• Jill Biden will travel to Lansing and Westland, Michigan to energize supporters at volunteer canvass launches and encourage Michiganders to vote now. With only five days until November 3, Biden will discuss what is at stake in this election and emphasize the critical role that Michiganders will play in deciding the next president.
• Doug Emhoff will travel to Columbus and Akron where he will encourage Ohioans to make their voices heard by casting their ballots for the Biden-Harris ticket. First, he will kick off an early vote rally in Columbus. Later, he will visit Akron, where he will hold a drive-in rally to encourage Northeast Ohioans to make a plan to vote in this election.
• Today, Biden for President will begin airing two ads that both focus on climate change. Melanie is a 90 second spot that tells the story of a wildland firefighter in Arizona, and Oval suggests the best way to quiet Trump’s noise. These are the first two campaign-sponsored ads focused exclusively on climate ever to air nationally in a general election and will run on MSNBC and Comedy Central respectively.
• Yesterday, the Association of Flight Attendants Union and the Association of Professional Flight Attendants announced their endorsements of Joe Biden for President. In their endorsement, they cited their work with Vice President Biden in 2014 in keeping passengers safe, stopping the spread of communicable diseases on transportation, and commended his track record of standing with union members.

Statement by Vice President Joe Biden on the Second Anniversary of the 10/27 Shootings
This was emailed to me by Jewish Americans for Biden
Today, the pain remains. For the families of Tree of Life, New Light, and Dor Hadash, the grief will never fully subside. In the two years since, we have witnessed the courage and resilience of these congregations — responding to their most profound moment of fear and despair with purpose, compassion, and love.
When anti-Semitism is allowed to fester, it shreds the fabric of our communities and erodes our soul. We must stand up and speak out whenever and wherever it rears its head, because silence can become complicity. If we are ever to reach our full potential as a nation, we must banish hatred, bigotry, and conspiratorial fanaticism to the dustbin of history — and choose a path of dignity and respect for all people.
On behalf of Jill, Kamala, Doug, and our families, we stand with the people of Squirrel Hill, the entire Pittsburgh community, and all Jewish Americans on this solemn anniversary. May the memories of the victims forever be a blessing.
