Editorial: Hundreds of rejected ballots? Texas' new 'poll test' is working as predicted.

Thousands of vote by mail applications have been rejected due to voters not using the right number.

There was a time in this country, before the Voting Rights Act, when Southern states used intentionally confusing literacy tests to keep Black people from voting.

These days in Texas, it’s a memory test.

A new Texas law, passed under the auspices of election “integrity” in pursuit of the phantom myth of voter fraud, puts up extra obstacles for people applying for a mail-in ballot. A new form requires that would-be voters provide either a partial Social Security number or a Texas driver license number. Seems simple enough but here’s the catch: the number provided has to be the same one the voter gave, possibly years or decades ago, when he or she registered to vote.

Try to use your Social Security number when you registered with your driver’s license number and sorry, Texans, your perfectly legitimate attempt to access your constitutional voting rights is denied. We have the Texas Legislature to thank for this ‘reform’ that’s causing headaches for elections officials across Texas as it ensnares hundreds of voters of all stripes whose number recall is less than perfect.

I am eligible to use vote by mail this election but I am afraid of my application or ballot being rejected. Texas has a new poll tax where you have to remember if you used your Texas driver's license number or a partial social security number

Democrat says Tucker Carlson viewers telling his office US should side with Russia

A House Democrat asserted Monday that people have called his office claiming to be Fox News viewers and telling him the U.S. should be "siding with Russia" as tensions between Russia and Ukraine intensify.

"My office is now getting calls from folks who say they watch Tucker Carlson and are upset that we're not siding with Russia in its threats to invade Ukraine, and who want me to support Russia's 'reasonable' positions," Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.) said in a tweet on Monday afternoon.

During an interview with The Hill on Monday evening, Malinowski said the feedback, which he said came in a flurry of calls to his staff earlier in the day, is an example of the growing partisan divide in America and the media's role in it.

"People get their opinions by watching the news, that's nothing new," he said. "What is new is we have at least one talk show host with a huge captive audience that is not exposed to any counter-programming elsewhere ... I find that very concerning."
