Just Take December Off
by paradox
..............
Who on earth does Congress think theyre fooling with all this self-imposed masturbatory political trigger contortions of nothing? Jesus Christ. If things are so horribly nuclear terrible this Fall with impossible conditions, well then my good homies, let the conditions expire and fix them in January when everyone is not so trapped. Or bullied into something greatly harmful.
And oh my fucking god the media in all this! Approximately two weeks ago I made the mistake of eating dinner in front of NBC, and not only did they totally leave out the history and context of the Bush tax cuts and those making more than $250,000, the rank fear-mongering in all this absurdity was deeply alarming. This is really scary! the reporter breathlessly panted.
NBC needs a story, fine, but inciting fear over nothing with issues that hold great importance is a line those assclowns should be a lot more careful of. NBC seems to think it has a bottomless well of trust in its viewers as they barf up anything they call journalism, but it cannot last forever with such powerfully destructive behavior.
Amusingly one of the terrible triggers are defense cuts. If one really thinks DOD cuts are coming from this totally militarist President and Congress, dream on. What a laugher, DOD triggers will do that magical vanishing act soon.

Ex-CIA chief David Petraeus took the blame for the extramarital affair that torpedoed his career, but his forgiving wife, Holly, is sticking by him, according to a newly revealed private letter.
I screwed up royally, Petraeus told his longtime Army pal, retired Brig. Gen. James Shelton in the hand-written missive.
I paid the price (appropriately) and I sought to do the right thing at the end of the day, he wrote in the Nov. 20 message.
Petraeus stepped down on Nov. 9 as news of his affair with biographer Paula Broadwell went public.

Indefinite Detention: Senate Votes Down Military Imprisonment Of Americans
Source: Huffington Post
WASHINGTON -- The Senate took a step Thursday toward ending the indefinite detention of Americans in the U.S., voting for a narrow amendment that some civil liberties groups opposed, even though they said it was in the right direction.
The measure, offered by Sen. Dianne Feistein (D-Calif.) as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013, specifies that citizens and legal residents suspected of terrorism in the U.S. cannot be held without trial indefinitely.
"I know this is a sensitive subject, but I really believe we stand on the values of our country, and the value of our country is justice for all," said Feinstein before the Senate voted 67 to 29 to add her provision to the NDAA.

The key sentence in her measure says: "An authorization to use military force, a declaration of war, or any similar authority shall not authorize the detention without charge or trial of a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States apprehended in the United States, unless an Act of Congress expressly authorizes such detention."

Don’t spoil your appetite: Romney spotted at McDonald’s ahead of lunch with Obama
Mitt Romney loves his McDonalds and has said so on many occasions. In fact, he often used a card his father got for helping out the McDonalds founders to get free hamburgers for life.
Its unclear exactly when Romney was buying this burger (the picture was posted on Reddit at about 2 a.m. ET), but hopefully it didnt ruin his appetite when he met for lunch with U.S. President Barack Obama today.
Bitter campaign foes just weeks ago, Obama and Romney sat down with an eye on overlapping interests rather than the sharp differences that defined their presidential contest.
In their first meeting since the election, Obama and the Republican nominee met in the White Houses private dining room, fulfilling a promise Obama made in his victory speech the night of Nov. 6.

White House: No debt deal unless tax rates on top earners go up
By Amie Parnes - 11/29/12 01:52 PM ET
White House press secretary Jay Carney said Thursday there will be no deficit deal unless Republicans agree to raise tax rates on the wealthiest households.
There can be no deal without rates on top earners going up, said Carney, who reiterated that the president will not sign legislation that extends the Bush-era tax rates for the wealthy.
This should not be news to anyone who was not in a coma during campaign season," Carney said of the presidents stance on taxes.
Carneys ultimatum came on a day in which both sides dug in and appeared to move farther apart on a deal to prevent tax hikes on most households and crippling spending cuts to defense and non-defense budgets set to hit in January.

Top GOP Senator Concedes That Republicans Will Support Higher Taxes In Fiscal Cliff Deal
By Igor Volsky on Nov 29, 2012 at 10:12 am

During an appearance on Fox News on Thursday, Sen. John Thune (R-SD), the Republican Conference Chairman, said that while he wouldnt personally support a measure that raises taxes, there may be enough Republicans who would vote for something like that:
MARTHA MAcCALLUM (HOST): What Im asking you is are Republicans willing to hold the line, to say to the President, I am sorry, we will never agree to a deal that involves an increase in taxes? Are they?
THUNE: I think any deal that passes up here that raises taxes and raises taxes as I mentioned earlier on small businesses, Martha, is not going to enjoy Republican support. Now, there may be enough Republicans who would vote for something like that to pass it in the House of Representatives, they need to get to 218 votes.
MAcCALLUM: Then it would be done, right?
THUNE: Well see about that. We dont know what that. We dont know what the contours of a final deal might look at this point. Everybody right now is sort of in their corners and doing the posturing.
