TPM buried the lede: Patriot Leader Who Threatened To Rip Reid's Balls-Lives off Gov Disabilty Check

Militia Leader Threatens To Rip Reid’s Balls Off Over Bundy ‘Civil War’

I can't believe TPM buried the lede. The Patriot Leader Mike Vanderboegh is on Social Security disability. He was the idiot that encouraged Tea partiers to throws rocks at Congressional offices. He travels around the county on his SS disability checks protecting the border in Arizona, rallying for gun rights in Virginia and now in Nevada with fellow welfare grazing owner Cliven Bundy.

The minute I saw his name in the story I remember this guy and his disability story from the Post:

Vanderboegh said he once worked as a warehouse manager but now lives on government disability checks. He said he receives $1,300 a month because of his congestive heart failure, diabetes and hypertension. He has private health insurance through his wife, who works for a company that sells forklift products.

OBAMACARE News: It is time to drink the tears of your Republican neighbors & They Taste SO Sweet!

Your Tears Taste So Sweet!

The Department of Health & Human Services has just issued it's report on ObamaCare enrollments. It is time to drink the tears of your Republican neighbors. Not only did ObamaCare exceed enrollment expectations, but 85% of the enrollees are receiving some degree of subsidy. And nearly 70% of enrollees are white, proving that freeloading is a multiracial American tradition.

Key findings from today’s report include:

8,019,763 people selected Marketplace plans from October 1, 2013, through March 31, 2014, (including additional Special Enrollment Period activity through April 19th). Nearly 2.6 million signed up in the State Based Marketplaces and over 5.4 million in the Federally-facilitated Marketplace. About 3.8 million people, including nearly 1.2 million young adults (ages 18 – 34), enrolled in the Health Insurance Marketplace plans in the sixth and final reporting period, which began March 2 and concluded on April 19. Those 3.8 million individuals represent nearly 90 percent growth over February’s cumulative enrollment.

Of the more than 8 million:
54 percent are female and 46 percent are male;
34 percent are under age 35;
28 percent are between the ages of 18 and 34;
65 percent selected a Silver plan, while 20 percent selected a Bronze plan; and,
85 percent selected a plan with financial assistance.

Today’s report measures enrollment as those who selected a plan.

The federal Marketplace also reported, for the first time this month, the race/ethnicity of its enrollees. The application for coverage through the Federally-facilitated Marketplaces (FFM) contains questions on race and on ethnicity, both marked as optional. Thirty-one percent of enrollees did not report their race or ethnicity or chose “other.” However, of those enrollees who reported race and ethnicity:

62.9 percent of those reporting are white;
16.7 percent are African American;
10.7 percent are Latino;
7.9 percent are Asian;
1.3 percent are multiracial;
0.3 percent are American Indian/Alaska Native; and,
0.1 percent are Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander.

another nice tidbit:
In a conference call with reporters on Thursday, Secretary Sebelius confirmed that Health and Human Services has crunched the numbers on Obamacare enrollment and confirmed that more than 8 million people have indeed obtained private coverage on the exchanges. That includes 5.4 million on the federal exchanges and 2.6 million on the separate state exchanges. In addition to that, more than 3 million young adults have been added to their family plans, with 4.8 additional enrollments in Medicaid and CHIP programs. In this 8 million, 2.2 million—or 28 percent—are between the ages of 18 and 34.

PROOF: When it comes to income inequality, no other developed economy does it quite like the U.S.A.

The chart above, from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) using the World Top Incomes Database, shows how income gains between 1975 and 2007 were divvied up in 18 OECD countries for which the researchers had data. Nowhere did the rich benefit as much as in America.

As you can see, in some countries like Denmark the vast majority of income gains went to the bottom 90 percent -- SOCIALISTS! -- while nearly half of U.S. income gains went to the richest one percent because freedom, baby.

America’s top 1 percent of earners accounted for 47 percent of all pre-tax income growth over that time period. And that’s excluding capital gains, for God's sake. Throw in the rest of the top 10 percent, and you’re looking at a group that got four-fifths of all income growth between the Ford and George W. Bush administrations. The rest of us were left to scramble for the last one-fifth of extra income. If you add in capital gains, which typically accrue to the highest earners anyway, the picture is probably a lot worse.

That trend had a big impact on total income share: Between 1981 and 2012, the top 1 percent more than doubled their share of total pre-tax income. They now account for about 20 percent of the nation's earnings. That's more than any other OECD country for which we have data:

"Republicans originally thought that Fox worked for us, and now we are discovering we work for Fox."

This Is How Fox News "Saved" The GOP?
From Government Shutdown To The Bundy Debacle, Fox Keeps Damaging The GOP Brand

"As the network has become more extreme, it's become harder and harder to resonate -- it's become damaging to the Republican brand." That's how Roger Ailes biographer Gabriel Sherman recently described the dynamic to Media Matters.

Are Fox talkers that obtuse and out of touch with American politics? Not necessarily. The fact is they're just in a different business than the Republican Party and until the GOP recognizes that, Fox will continue to do damage to that party's brand. ("Republicans originally thought that Fox worked for us, and now we are discovering we work for Fox.&quot

At Fox, boss Ailes is in the business of serving the channel's hardcore, far-right audience of approximately two million viewers who tune in throughout the day, every day, to be outraged about what awful plans Obama has allegedly hatched, and which liberties and freedoms are suddenly under fire. And as a business plan, phony outrage works just fine for Fox. But politically, it represents a possibly permanent dead end for White House aspirations.

Fox News long ago commandeered the GOP's communications apparatus and has been championing the type of paranoid rhetoric that loses national elections and turns off voters en mass. The relentless, paranoid crusade falls well outside the mainstream of American politics. But the GOP can't turn it off. In fact, most Republicans can't even work up enough courage to ask Fox News to turn down the volume. And that's how malignant characters like Cliven Bundy get elevated to hero status and why conservatives are now gnashing their teeth over the fiasco.

Obama Rips Senate Republicans For Blocking Bill To Raise The Minimum Wage

Republicans in Congress have found the time to vote more than 50 times to undermine or repeal the healthcare bill for millions of working families. Earlier this month they voted for a budget that would give the wealthiest Americans a massive tax cut, while forcing deep cuts to investments that help middle class families, but they won’t raise wages for millions of working families when three quarters of Americans support it? It makes no sense.

And on top of that, they blocked our efforts to make sure women receive equal pay for equal work. They stood in the way as we fought to extend unemployment insurance for parents who need a little help supporting their families while they’re out looking for work. Republicans have failed to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, and they’ve increasing failed to do anything when it comes to helping people who work hard get ahead.

If there’s any good news here, it’s that Republicans in Congress don’t get the last word on this issue, or any issue. You do. The American people. The voters. Change is happening, whether Republicans in Congress like it or not. So my message to the American people is this, do not get discouraged by a vote like the one we saw this morning. Get fired up. Get organized. Make your voices heard, and rest assured, I’m going to keep working with you, and Leader Nancy Pelosi, and other members of Congress who are here today to raise wages for hard working Americans. It’s the right thing to do.

If you’re member of Congress doesn’t support raising the minimum wage, you gotta let them know that they’re out of step, and if they keep putting politics ahead of working Americans, you’ll put them out of office.

Scientific American Editor: Fox Told Me I Couldn't Talk About Climate Change

An editor with Scientific American magazine said Wednesday he was shot down by a Fox News producer when he said he wanted to talk about the impacts of climate change.

Michael Moyer appeared on "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday morning to talk about tech trends for the next decade. He tweeted that he suggested the number one trend for the future would be climate change impact but was told to choose another topic instead.

Justice Scalia Makes Epic "Cringeworthy" Blunder In Supreme Court Opinion

Justice Scalia Makes Epic Blunder In Supreme Court Opinion
SAHIL KAPUR – APRIL 30, 2014, 6:00 AM EDT
It's not often that a Supreme Court justice makes a factual blunder in a formal opinion.

Legal experts say Justice Antonin Scalia erred in his dissent in the 6-2 decision Tuesday to uphold the Environmental Protection Agency's authority to regulate coal pollution that moves across state lines. The Reagan-appointed jurist argued that the majority's decision was inconsistent with a unanimous 2001 ruling which he mistakenly said shot down EPA efforts to consider costs when setting regulations.

........................

The problem: the EPA's position in the 2001 case was exactly the opposite. The agency was defending its refusal to consider cost as a counter-weight to health benefits when setting certain air quality standards. It was the trucking industry that wanted the EPA to factor in cost. The 9-0 ruling sided with the EPA. The author of the ruling that Scalia mischaracterized? Scalia himself.

The conservative justice's error was noted by University of California-Berkley law professor Dan Farber, who called it "embarrassing" and a "cringeworthy blunder."

"Scalia’s dissent also contains a hugely embarrassing mistake. He refers to the Court’s earlier decision in American Trucking as involving an effort by EPA to smuggle cost considerations into the statute. But that’s exactly backwards: it was industry that argued for cost considerations and EPA that resisted," Farber wrote on the environmental law and policy blog Legal Planet. "This gaffe is doubly embarrassing because Scalia wrote the opinion in the case, so he should surely remember which side won! Either some law clerk made the mistake and Scalia failed to read his own dissent carefully enough, or he simply forgot the basics of the earlier case and his clerks failed to correct him. Either way, it's a cringeworthy blunder."
