5 Ways To Delete A File In Use In Windows

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/5-ways-delete-file-use-windows/

Windows Explorer thinks the file you’re trying to delete is still open, but it’s not? This commonly happens with video files that were played back in Windows Media Player but it can happen with any other file, too. The file is either running in the background or it wasn’t closed properly. You can even run into this issue with files you haven’t opened in years! Fortunately, this can be resolved in a few different ways.

Did You Close The Program?

Let’s start with the obvious. Did you just open the file and not close it? If the file is closed, but the program is still running, close it too, then try again.

Have You Tried Rebooting?

Rebooting solves most issues and it will most certainly solve this one. While it can be inconvenient, it requires zero skills or fiddling with stuff like the Task Manager or third party tools. Rebooting also clears your RAM and possibly fixes other nuisances in one go. So try this if you can’t be bothered to look into the cause.

If you have already tried rebooting and it didn’t help, skip the following steps and go straight to third party tools.

No Android for Obama yet, sticking with BlackBerry

http://www.zdnet.com/no-android-for-obama-yet-sticking-with-blackberry-7000027597/

It's no secret that BlackBerry is one sick company. Once the very definition of the corporate smartphone, now even BlackBerry's CEO is calling the company's survival a coin-toss. But BlackBerry will continue to have one famous, loyal customer: President Obama.

When the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) recently reported that the White House was testing Samsung and LG Android smartphones for internal use, it looked like Blackberry was going to lose its star customer. Specifically, the WSJ reported that a source had said that the White House Communications Agency, a military unit in charge of President Barack Obama's communications, was in the early stages of testing Android phones.

Some Android lovers took this to mean that Obama was ready to "ditch" the BlackBerry in favor of their favorite mobile operating system.

BlackBerry, in a statement, kept a stiff upper lip: "We value the long-term relationship we’ve had with the White House and have been securing their mobile communications for more than a decade. The U.S. government requires the highest levels of security. Governments test new technologies frequently, but nevertheless the U.S. government continues to choose BlackBerry for its unmatched security and cost effectiveness. Other vendors such as Samsung and LG still have a long way to go to catch up to meet the government’s stringent requirements and certifications."

Malwarebytes commits to lifetime support for XP users

http://betanews.com/2014/03/24/malwarebytes-commits-to-lifetime-support-for-xp-users/

The antivirus industry is getting steamed up about the forthcoming end of XP support. Last week we saw Avast warning of the vulnerabilities users might face.

Today anti-virus specialist Malwarebytes announces its new Anti-Malware Premium product and at the same time is pledging that it will continue to support XP users for life.

The company says that XP users currently make up 20 percent of its user base and could be at greater risk after 8 April when support for the old operating system ends.

The new Premium product has a streamlined dashboard interface that makes it easy to see the protection status of the PC along with a heuristics engine designed to detect and eliminated malicious software based on its behavior. It also has anti-rootkit technology and adds malicious URL blocking and protection from potentially unwanted programs. As before Malwarebytes will run alongside traditional security software to provide an additional layer of protection. A Chameleon mode allows Malwarebytes to open even if the system has an infection that tries to close down security software.

Good news indeed for you XP users.

Question about Orlando area, my fellow DU'ers....

Are we getting more blue these days ? Are we making progress ? Orange County seems to be, especially Orlando. Seminole County, I can't tell. Osceola County....I have no clue. No clue about Lake County.

Thanks.

The ONLY time Congress is reflective of the overriding American will is....

when Americans call Capitol Hill in overwhelming numbers, flooding switchboards, threatening electoral defeat, etc. When Americans actually write snail mail letters in huge amounts, that works too. I'm not sure how reactive they are to emails. Showing up at town halls and screaming bloody murder ( DON'T TOUCH MY MEDICAREEEEEEEEEEE ) works also.

When Americans don't overwhelm Congress, the default is to go with big business and whoever pays the most in campaign contributions.

I've been watching politics for 39 years, and this is the standard template. Of course, Congress is going to do the brain dead easy stuff like post offices and fund DoD, but if Americans really want significant change, they have to actually call or write a snail mail letter or show up to protest in the hundreds of thousands.

Oh, and by the way, the invasion of Iraq happened despite huge protests. So, my point about protesting is diminished by that fact.

I know you're not going to agree with me, Manny, so let's just agree to disagree, shall we ? Have a pleasant evening.

Bristol named Britain’s best city to live in

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/bristol-named-britains-best-city-to-live-in-9210931.html

Bristol has been named as the best city in the UK to live in, thanks to its “great shopping, great scenery and great social scene”.

The accolade was awarded in the second instalment of the Sunday Times’ Best Places to Live in Britain, which last week saw Skipton in North Yorkshire come out as number one in a less urban 101 Best Places to Live list.

The latest list did not provide ranks beyond the best overall winner, but profiled each one of the 64 cities in Britain.

Bristol, it said, boasts “one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, varied and beautiful housing stock, decent schools, buzzy culture and night life and access to some fantastic countryside”.
