How much did you hate Windows Vista ?

I didn't hate it. I was in a very small minority I think.

National Weather Service/NHC/NSSL are all government funded (socialism, yes ?) with no private money

National Weather Service: http://www.weather.gov/

NHC: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

NSSL: http://www.nssl.noaa.gov

I was watching the tragic destructive tornadoes in Oklahoma yesterday. They decimated the towns of Bridge Creek, Oklahoma and Amber, OK.

How many taxpayers and citizens of this country are willing to allow private business(es) to make a profit off this vital information ? I don't think private industry could do a better job of it, although I'm sure the die-hard libertarians would disagree with me.

I'm thankful for the socialism in this case, as well as other cases.

ETA: Yes, I'm aware there are private businesses in the weather business, but none as vast as NWS, NHC and NSSL.

Did you know, per 10k square miles, that FLORIDA leads the nation in tornadoes ?

According to that historical data, at least. It could have changed recently, of course. I'm thinking most of the Florida
tornadoes are in the Gulf, Atlantic and Florida Straits waters close enough to the land to be counted as Florida. I don't read
often about tornadoes in Florida but yes we have them.

Texas leads the nation in average annual number of EF0 to EF5 tornadoes. Kansas is second, Florida is third and Oklahoma is fourth.

Samuel L. Jackson didn't consider taking help from Obama for role in 'Big Game'

http://zeenews.india.com/entertainment/movies/samuel-l-jackson-didnt-consider-taking-help-from-obama-for-role-in-big-game_1590481.html

New Delhi: Samuel L. Jackson, who is all set to play the U.S President in his upcoming movie 'Big Game', has said that he didn't consider taking help from U.S President Barack Obama.

Talking about his role, the American actor asserted that when his character has an expectation of people coming to rescue him but at some point he figures out that is not going to happen.

According to Multivision Multimedia, the 66-year-old actor said that his job is irrelevant, he is just a guy and he did not need to take any advice from Obama or Morgan Freeman or Jaime Fox for the role.

' Big Game' is the enthralling story of U.S President, who is on route to a G-8summit meet when Air Force One is shot down by terrorists in an attempted assassination that leaves him stranded in the European wilderness.

David Cameron is just THRILLING this little girl, obviously!

Never work with children or animals, they say. David Cameron found that out to his cost when six-year-old Lucy momentarily placed her head on the desk seemingly bored with the prime minister's reading lesson. Actually she was just giggling at her mispronunciation of a word.

Overweight diabetes patients outlive slimmer ones - study

http://in.reuters.com/article/2015/05/04/health-obesity-diabetes-idINL1N0XQ1XU20150504

May 4 (Reuters) - Patients with type-2 diabetes who are overweight but not obese outlive diabetics of normal weight, scientists reported on Monday, in another example of the "obesity paradox."

Although public health officials issue dire warnings about the consequences of overweight, and employers are pressuring workers to slim down via "wellness programs," the relationship between weight and longevity is paradoxical: Studies show that although obesity increases the risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD), overweight patients with CVD live longer than patients of normal weight.

Similarly, obesity increases the chances of developing type-2 diabetes. But it wasn't clear if overweight confers a survival advantage in diabetics.

Sixteen previous studies got conflicting answers: Some found overweight diabetics had lower mortality; others didn't. But many were hobbled by methodological problems including few patients, short follow-up, or using questionnaires rather than clinic records.
